I bought it for fast AF/on-camera-flash. I bought it so I would have continuity in colors/render over all the work I do. The second part is a bit hazy right now. But I have faith Leica will fix it.

The EVF is great, the AF is faster than anything I currently own. Ergonomically it's fantastic.. I'll let everyone know how good the flash system is, as soon as mine arrives. I'm hopeful here. Nissan makes a pretty good flash. And out of the SF58 (quirky), SF26 (doesn't fit), SF24D (old)... The SF24D actually works best on the SL. Better than on any other Leica body I've used it on. So it seems like something inside the camera knows how to handle flash power. And who knows maybe the SSF63 will balance on the camera better then I think.

This camera looks pretty interesting to me but I will pass on it. I would love to try one out for a few weeks as I think it does have some unique "benefits" depending on what type of shooting you prefer. I happen to love the 50noct samples I have seen with the SL... However, I will save my pennies for now and spend them on the next M. Any guesses when it will be released?

Just a guess. I have a sneaky suspicion the next M will have a different sensor.
Another guess. 2016 announcement, followed by a late 2016 delivery date.

I'm on my 2nd try with the Fujis. 1st time round I had the 18-55 and 35. I agree the 35 was good but the 18-55 was just average for both the copies I tried, although many raved about it. This time I have the wide zoom an both 2.8's. And they're really really good. I have yet to see something I don't like about the 16-55 or 50-140.

The 56mm 1.2APD might be the best 85mm equivalent I've ever used. It's astounding. I like it more than the 90mmAA Leica M. And there's a new fast "standard" coming. A 33mm

I'll check out the 56mm 1.2APD. Not getting back into Fuji, but I'm always curious.

Well it may be true. There are plenty of A7r2 paperweights, so why not a SL paperweight?

But in Adam's case I kinda doubt it, besides the flash issue, he also has S lenses. Oh.....yeah we have to weight for that and the new batteries

To my surprise, the SL does seem available to buy and it is getting bought.

As to the Fuji Medium format being cheaper than SL? Who knows and so what?

More to the point, will the fuji be able to introduce a MF that is DSLR footprint with a nice lens set. If they do, more power to them! And if it's affordable, better yet. But if their camera is bigger than a Leica S it will be sad.

What's funny is the "interchangeable Q" niche, with far more profit potential, remains wide open

I stand by my assessment. Your calling the camera a paper weight is an extreme assessment. It has its flaws like any other camera--especially one just released but it is hardly a paper weight.

Dave - Nobody ever listens to me. If they did, we'd all boycott S.Huff for making plastic bokeh a thing to desire. Sony would be out of business and Donald Trump would be President.

But to Steve Spencer's point. I am an early adopter, and I know that never goes over well when Leica is involved. I'm going to use the SL as much as possible. As things get sorted out, or my opinion changes I'll let everyone know. Not that my opinion really matters. But it is fun to chat about cameras to people other then my wife.

Hopefully the JPGs are fixed. The IQ/Sandpaper/Colors are sorted out. The M-T adapter problem is fixed (although I seem to be the only one having this issue, so I'm going to go swap the adapter see if that helps). The battery life can maybe be fixed in firmware.

All other issues will be sorted over a year long schedule. I have a feeling the 50LuxL will be AMAZING. I can't see it not being amazing. And for that lens alone I'd own an SL. Remember 90% of the time my 50APO is glued to my walk-around/travel M-P. The only time I take it off, is when I need a wide shot (21lux usually).

Anyway, time will tell..

Are you a fan of the 50 summilux at all? Would like to hear from some folks who have the 80mm R on the SL as well.

The SF26 fits but it's a bastard to get onto the camera. Once on, it's been a bit inconsistent as sometimes it doesn't fire. But that could be because I haven't taken it in to have the firmware updated yet. The SF58 seems to work OK (better than the M anyway), which is why I bought the Sl to begin with. Leica aren't going to win any awards for their TTL implementation but it's usable at least.

Yep, big fan of the 50 Summilux-ASPH. I just like the 50APO more
I think the 50 Summilux-ASPH looks amazing at night. I prefer it to the Noctilux for night shooting. The Noctilux is a good gloomy day lens though!!

I don't even wanna bother trying to get the SF26 to fit.. I'm perfectly happy using the SF24D until I get their new flashes.. The SF24D works REALLY well on the SL, considering it never worked well on anything else :P

Leica SL is Camera of the year for Steve Huff

"It is a new era for Leica as they have created a system camera that beats every single mirrorless camera made today, and IMO, beats any DSLR (but I am not a DSLR guy) with its build, simplicity, EVF, and overall quality and usability."

Here is his full review

It's a pretty wild stream of consciousness review He goes Jack Kerouac but with fewer chords

"In all honesty, it is responsible for lifting me out of a “funk” I was in with my shooting as it is very inspiring and it just makes you want to go out and shoot. It is a very inspiring tool."

Also he thinks this is basically the best zoom he has ever seen! He's very often over the top but this time it's like when that bolide hit the Chesapeake and made a tsunami that crested the Appalachians He has bought both the body and the zoom!

Who's next........Soo..boring? Would be highly entertaining to see Andrew eat his words

So I went out to the creepiest theme park on earth, Haw Par Villa. (Tivoli comes in second place, sorry Denmark.) And after about 20 minutes of walking around with the zoom I switched to the 50APO. It started to pour about 10 minutes after that. Forcing me to switch back to the zoom. I then spent the next 20 minutes soaking wet (like four cups of water could be rung out of my thin t-shirt wet) as I walked back to the car. Seeing how the camera is "weather sealed" I decided to keep shooting. The camera didn't shut off on me or anything. I'm home now, and the camera is in the dry-cab. I'll check on my camera in a few hours and see if it still works..

I think my Cordovan wallet, and the car interior suffered the most. My iPhone is also off and in the dry-cab.. We'll see how that works out.

Even though I purposely tried to underexpose. Quite a few of my JPG files were problematic. I ended up editing all the images from RAW. Nothing special no idea in mind when I started, but just what I thought looked nice.

Since there are a TON of images, I figured better put them in a link. I'll do that tonight, when I've finished some work I've been putting off doing.

Here's a quick SL image of the sidewalk to show just how much rain I got stuck in (flash flood style). So you have an idea of the weatherproofing... Assuming the camera works tonight when I test it out: http://www.jupitersnake.com/FM/flood.jpg

well, he is not alone. The way many users here race from body to body is pretty remarkable. The A7II was really "it" for at least a month

I reserve that level of ADD for lenses

Thanks for these Adam. Yeah, that theme park is bizarre! Dismemberment by alien-like man?

I kind of guessed where the transition to 50 APO was when I got to the ape, in part by the bokeh, but the 50 APO images also seem to generally have a bit more pop. Not sure if you processed them differently? That said, I like what I'm seeing from the zoom in these. Maybe it's not the sharpest lens at 70-90mm as some may have claimed, but I'm not seeing much from the rendering that turns me off, at least compared to other 24-70 style zooms from Canikon, etc. I do think I see Leica rendering from it, though in a general sense and not necessarily specific to certain M or S lenses.

Haha, I think you made a funny choice for the system testing, you have been really unfair to Leica, shooting under heavy rain in weird theme park.

As for Zoom, I have seen at least two review claim it is the best zoom in the world. but without showing us any beef: where is the comparison? This is really poor act from review point of view that making bold claim without proof.

I don't see any special from SL so far personally, but we shouldn't, as other than color,(not seeing special as well) all digital camera now days are about the same anyway. The user experience still is the key.

For anything involve people and moving, I still way prefer OVF. I feel dizzy through EVF and the feeling really distract me. so it is not about magnification only, the subtle delay is very noticeable and annoy to me, I way prefer I can capture a moment without perfect nailing focusing then a 100% focused lifeless image. Is that make sense?

Precise focus and EVF with an active subject are not incompatible.

I am not surprised (since It is from you) That is why I say "I"&"PREFER". I might be able to get certain images as I liked through EVF, just seems I can get more and easier with OVF and manual focus.

I know exactly how you feel Michael. I fully understand the benefits of an EVF but I still prefer to use a big bright OVF. EVF feels a bit artificial and unnatural to me... I love the OVF in the D700, FE-2, M240, and Zeiss Ikon.
