Yes! I've never seen this on any Loxia 35/2 the same issue has happened on previous copies of my Loxia 21 and 50. Both times, Zeiss replaced them for brand new copies. It seems to happen frequently with Loxia lenses (there was a dedicated thread on this subject here).
Basically the aperture ring reports the wrong info to the camera and in consequence we see an annoying changes in exposure as you move it to f/2.2 and becomes f/22 as an example.

I've haven't seen it at all on my 21, 50, or 85, but it was very apparent on two 35s !

I forgot to say about the aperture error. While the white flashes occured, it would also flicker from one aperture reading to another. At f/11, it would stick to f/22 entirely. Strange that Zeiss reported never having seen it before...

I am curious what the impact on still photography was as a result of this issue? In-camera metering etc would presumably have not worked correctly, but if you say set the camera to manual mode and dialled in the exposure settings yourself were you still able to shoot with it?

I had a bit of a different issue with my Loxia 35. Not white flashes, but the camera freezing up altogether upon shutter release, forcing you to switch the camera off and on. Would happen randomly, maybe one shot out of 50. It was under warranty, and Zeiss sent me a new lens which hasn't exhibited that issue.

Love the way Loxia 21 renders. Is there any other lens for E mount which comes close to Loxia 21 but has AF?

Would Batis 18 or 25mm be close enough or it is in completely different(lower ) league?

I'd say the Batis 18/2.8 is closest to the Loxia 21/2.8 in resolution/rendering than the Batis 25/2. The latter is the most flat-field though. All three outstanding lenses.

The 21mm is a special lens. It just shows a subtly to the colour graduation that is not present in most other lenses. Almost Leica like, but with the Zeiss colour and rendering. While the 12-24mm is a superb zoom, it just does not render like the loxia

I took this image at Convict Lake, CA

The camera was set to 3.2 seconds exposure and I used the Smooth Reflections App for "96" images.
Total exposure time: Over 5 minutes.

There was some wind and the lake was not very still. I wouldn't get this reflection if it wasn't for the very long exposure.

Older threads like this get archived very quickly. We need to continue posting images on it everyday, so it stays on the live forum.

Here is another one from Yosemite. Backlight showing impressive contrast from this lens. Only one shot because the ground was wet above my ankles.

Phenomenal, Fred!!

I still love the Loxia 2.8/21. My favorite lens. I just don't have often the opportunity to use it in the way I love to at the moment:

Ok, let's starting to save thread from archiving I went through my images online and it seems that I have shoot with my only Loxia (50mm) only few times after 2015 spring holiday, as Loxia 50 is rather neutral lens and I prefer "character lenses" like Contax G45 and Zeiss 1.4/50 (on C/Y or ZE mount). Now situation is much "better" as I just got Loxia 85, and it seems to become my main short tele => as I prefer to shoot lenses with similar rendering together, most likely Loxia 50 will also get more usage.

Zeiss Loxia 2/50 FE @ f/8.0, 1/60s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 100 (most likely Hoya 52mm polarizer, but at 2015 my "EXIF-process" was not yet very good, so filter I just had to guess...)

Zeiss Loxia 2/50 FE @ f/11.0, 1/20s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 100 (most likely Hoya 52mm polarizer, but at 2015 my "EXIF-process" was not yet very good, so filter I just had to guess...)

Some studies of boke and DOF-boke transitions, rendering is quite enjoyable f/4 and f/5.6 - f/2.8 doesn't clear corner boke, closing down to f/3.5 most likely would be "optimal" for shallow DOF and boke quality on this kind of scene.

Zeiss Loxia 2/50 FE @ f/2.8, 1/500s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 100 (most likely Hoya 52mm polarizer, but at 2015 my "EXIF-process" was not yet very good, so filter I just had to guess...)

Zeiss Loxia 2/50 FE @ f/4.0, 1/400s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 100 (most likely Hoya 52mm polarizer, but at 2015 my "EXIF-process" was not yet very good, so filter I just had to guess...)

Zeiss Loxia 2/50 FE @ f/5.6, 1/160s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 100 (most likely Hoya 52mm polarizer, but at 2015 my "EXIF-process" was not yet very good, so filter I just had to guess...)

Zeiss Loxia 2/50 FE @ f/2.8, 1/160s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 50 (most likely Hoya 52mm polarizer, but at 2015 my "EXIF-process" was not yet very good, so filter I just had to guess...)

Samuli,
Something is weird with the display of these images. I noticed they are very soft and not well sharpened.
I could not believe you wanted them to look like this, as you always take care of finest detail in rendering usually, I know that. So I downloaded one or two of your last images, and they are only 1280x855 px when I look @ them at 100% in Affinity Photo. This is much smaller than they are displayed here in the thread. This explains why they look so soft in the thread (but they are definitely not when looking at the downloaded image). The forum software seems to blow them up to around 1473x982 on my screen. Don't know why, just to let you know. They don't really look good.
