Well, those are obvious questions obviously but since you didn't mention that in your post, I thought I asked. Another possibility, would be the connection between the adapter and lens is not established. Metabones adapters, especially brand new ones tend to create seemingly excessive friction when you mount the lens on it. Just make sure that the lens sits properly and that it clicks in place.

Thanks for answering AGeoJO. I'm not sure about testing the lens on another Canon camera since I bought this lens just for use on an A7 II body (I'm usually a Nikon shooter). Actually, the Metabones adapter I'm using is just fresh out of the box. It's actually kind of tight to mount it on the camera compared to using a native lens. The lens has the type of AF where it hunts lot and PDAF doesn't seem enabled.

You have to make sure that the PDAF is set to "On". Please share with us your other "AF" feature settings then.

That menu item is not selectable in my camera. When I try to select it, it says that it's invalid with the lens.

Then I would reinstall the FW of the camera again and possibly also the FW of the Metabones, just to be on the safe side.

Is 100-400 II fully functional now with the latest FW?

Did the camera display F-- when you say your 100/2 was not working? Did any aperture display at all?

Was it only the 100/2 or did you have other lenses to test?

Sorry if I missed this, but can someone comment on the Sony A7r II + Canon 200 f/2 IS combo please ?

It isn't as good as on a 1Dx or 7D2 but it works as well as the 70-200 F2.8 II IS works - which is pretty good.

Can't remember if I posted this here, but the Sigma 24-105 F4 OS is terribly with the Metabones IV T (latest firmware) and A7Rii (latest firmware). Every 2 miuntes or so, the F-Stop data is no longer transferred and when this happens the Camera drops into MF mode and you can't get AF back unless you unscrew and then re-screw in the lens. When it is working it is a fabulous setup but Metabones clearly has some work to do with Sigma lenses.

Are you sure it's with the lens itself? It's a longstanding issue that the adapter will lose communication sometimes if you rotate the lens clockwise (when in shooting position)....next time you lose aperture, instead of remounting the lens, just twist it gently counterclockwise, and my guess is it'll come right back online.

I do have that lens and I can assure you that it works really well on my A7r II. First, I don't think the difference between A7 and A7r II matters much, if any. I don't think anybody here knows the answer why the lens doesn't work on your combo, but have you tested/tried other Canon lenses on your camera/adapter combo and they work OK? Plus, have you tried that lens on another body, maybe a Canon body to find out that it works?

Well, those are obvious questions obviously but since you didn't mention that in your post, I

Just as another data point, I use the 100/2 on my A7 II with the MB IV 0.47 and it works perfectly. My 100/2 is new, though: is the problem one in question here perhaps a much older model, with perhaps older internal firmware?

Before V.46 I wouldn't have said the same but by this time the compatibility and the firmware of Metabones are rock solid. Any issues you still see are likely hardware defects and you should talk to customer service for a warranty claim.

Unless - the aperture is fine but you lose only AF, in which case it is almost always accidentally entering Advanced mode on the adapter. http://metabones.com/article/of/green-power-save-mode

Hi Jordan, I actually wanted to copy your setup so I bought a Canon 100mm f2.0 and a Canon 70-200 f4.0 L non-IS. The Canon 70-200 f4.0 L just arrived today. However, when I tried it on the camera, it's still having the same problem as with the Canon 100mm f2.0. PDAF doesn't seem to be enabled and the contrast detect AF is really slow and inaccurate.

The Canon 100mm f2.0 is probably an older model. However, the 70-200 f4 that I bought off of someone is relatively new (June 2015).

I don't know if the problem lies in the adapter or my A7 II.

Do you have PDAF enabled in your settings on the A7 II? With the metabones mounted, go in the menu: Gears->Page 6-> AF System. Make sure it's set to Phase Detection AF.

Hi Jordan, for that particular setting, I can't change it. It's greyed out in my particular menu when the metabones is mounted.

That's bizarre. You do have the version 2 firmware on your A7 II, right? Is it possible you switched the adapter into advanced mode? Does the image auto magnify when you turn the manual focus ring? Specifically, you have it mounted with a lens, right?

Be careful, I had a Metabones adapter a few years ago absolutely stop working because of this lens. It wouldn't show the aperture numbers on any Canon lenses after I used that lens. Had to a headache getting support for the fix and I have become very cautious using 3rd Party lenses on Metabones now. It's sad because I like Sigma! I have been sticking to my Canon EF lenses and had no problems so far.

Yes, it's version 2. I don't think I switched the adapter into advanced mode. The auto magnify only works when I force the adapter into advanced mode when pressing the button on the adapter while mounting it. Otherwise, the auto magnify feature doesn't work.

Hmm. If the PDAF option I mentioned earlier doesn't appear when you have the metabones (with a lens mounted), you may have a defective adapter. That setting being grayed out means the camera doesn't think it can use PDAF for focusing. V0.47 shows in the camera when you check firmware version numbers?

FYI, cyberstudio/conurus is Bo Ming. He used and still does convert Contax N lenses to AF on Canon bodies. He plays a role in the development of the AF/electronic aspect of Canon EF to E adapter at Metabones. I do not know what role he plays but for sure as such, he knows what he is talking about in that department.
