17-40L is good (with MB III)
70-300L is sub-par at the long end, good at 70 & 135mm (MB III)
Also, for those of you who notice AF issues for zooms at the long end, I seem to have a general work-around, at least it worked well on my 70-300L.
Set AF to AF-C / Center, and zoom into a known 'good AF performance range' (for me that was 70 or 135mm). Center your subject, half-depress the shutter to start AF-C and let it lock AF, THEN zoom in to your long range (like 300mm) while still half-depressing the shutter button. The AF system should maintain focus on your subject while you zoom in to the problem range.
Not ideal, I agree, but better than continuous AF hunting.
You can get them on Amazon for less than a 100 dollars.
I'm almost willing to buy the 200mm and Viltrox adapter and try it. The damn bank not going to like me coming in twice in one week with the same ski mask though.
Seriously for those owners of the 135/200 might be worth the 100 bucks before they unload there lenses

I'm tempted for sure...Show more →
Why do I read what you write? Stop. lol
I seriously think it's worth a 100 dollar try it out deal with your situation of lenses before you sell them off. Plus you could also return the adapter. Amazon is great about that 30 days. Big bonus you can tell me if it works. Lol

I agree with your comments about the 70-300. I experienced the exact same thing.
And I just received the Metabones IV adapter. Is there any real reason to return it and get the "flocked" version instead? Will only be using the A7RII with the 24-70 and 70-300.
...and that covers pretty much all the Canon lenses I decided to keep
It's a shame about the 100L and 135L, however I can MF when shooting macro, and this justifies trading my 135L for the Sony 135mm f/1.8 but it leaves a big gap for a decent affordable 200/300mm prime with AF.
Matt you have to use the LA-EA 4 with the Sony 135 1.8 which is fine and works great but your stuck with that center cluster AF points which is limiting for me at least. I want to take advantage of all these new found AF points and the choices are getting thin.
The Sony 135 is one of the all times best lenses though. If you need AF
Honestly my head is starting to spin over this 135/200 situation and I'm not a big fan of zooms which makes it worse.

Hmm, my 135L and 200f2.8II seem to work on my A7(R) one shot AF mode. Have anyone tried focus-by-wire lenses yet? I know they don't work on MB3 and older A7series
Just got back from shooting and will post some info over the weekend (plan on shooting more and doing some comparisons with Sony FE and possibly Alpha lenses).
The Canon 100-400 II worked OK at 100mm as long as I helped it find the initial focus. Anything else (not just the longer ranges) essentially didn't work.
The 24-70 f/2.8 II works adequately but it's generally slower than on my 5D III for initial focus acquisition.
Does anyone know if flexible spot just doesn't work well on adapted lenses? I've found that wide AF works better, but I never quite know what it'll pick to focus on.
