Hmm. If the PDAF option I mentioned earlier doesn't appear when you have the metabones (with a lens mounted), you may have a defective adapter. That setting being grayed out means the camera doesn't think it can use PDAF for focusing. V0.47 shows in the camera when you check firmware version numbers?
Yes, the adapter shows Version .47 when checking the firmware version numbers in both the camera and when checking with the Metabones software.
Could the problem also be in the camera? I just bought my A7 M2 off the buy and sell boards here on Fredmiranda. When placing the camera in AF-C in the wide AF mode, I don't see multiple phase detect points light up when tracking objects For example of this see this video at around 51 seconds,
I only see a large a AF box that moves around but not the multiple AF phase detect points.
It's possible. If you have a local store, perhaps see if you can't test out their A7 II with your Metabones. Hope you get it figured out. Something definitely seems wrong at the camera/adapter level.
I borrowed from my brother. I can confirm Metabones IV .47+ A7 II works fine with the Canon 28-135mm. Not a bad combo and lens is pretty sharp. I was surprised. It's a nice lens for not much money. I also tested the 17-55mm EFS and works great in crop mode, but it's more a 25-82mm.
The mode dial on top of the camera must NOT be in movie mode. PDAF in movie mode is supported for native lenses only.
From your descriptions, you can see the version number on the camera, which means camera-adapter communication is completely fine, you can use contrast-detect AF, which means adapter-lens communication is perfect, and you have not accidentally entered Advanced mode. So I guess you might be trying to PDAF in movie mode, which is not possible.
Anybody tried Canon 135 f 2.0 lens with cheaper adapters? If so, does it work as good as MB (with latest firmware)? Also, what's the word on Tamron 150-600mm with MB IV or cheaper adapter. I'm trying to figure out whether to go A-mount route or get a Canon adapter.
With my A7RII & MB IV v.47 I can confirm the following 3 lenses work well...
Canon 8-15L
Canon 135L
Canon 70-200 2.8 non-IS.
I even used the 135L on the A7RII for my daughters swim class and got a decent amount of keepers in continuous AF mode, which surprised me. I was actually laughing to myself at how well the combo worked considering all the variables in play between brands.
That's awesome news. I have 135L coming so now even more interested in trying it out.

thanks for this, wouldnt mind an inexpensive 70-200 F2.8, looks like I've found it. The 135L is definitely really nice on the A7rii

If you're happy with the performance of the 135L on the A7RII, then you'll be happy with the 70-200 2.8 non-IS. On mine, they perform in a very similar manner.

Anybody tried with EF 400mm f/5.6L with MB IV v.47?
I haven't...but might soon. The camera store in my town has a clean 400 f/5.6L used for a good price, and I've considered taking my A7RII down there and trying it out in-store. Would be a nice lightweight combo, and the value of the 400 has gone down in the last year due to, I'm guessing, the 100-400 II (which I own and love).

Let me know if you try it out. My only complain on the EF 400/5.6L was the lack of IS but that won't be a problem on the A7RII.

Is 100-400 II fully functional now with the latest FW?

I tried the 100-400II with the FW update on the A7R2 and it works ok on the tele end in good light....in fact, I tried it with a 1.4TC attached, and the A7R2 showed f/8 and would autofocus with it on as well. Funny that technically, the camera that will autofocus the most points at f/8 right now is a camera not designed to take any such lenses and are being used via a 3rd party adaptor.

Is the AF fast enough, as fast as some other lenses? gocolts wrote:

Does anyone has any experience with Sigma 24-105 F4 with MB IV?
Frustrating as every few minutes it stops passing F Stop info and reverts to Manual.
I let the company know, they went out and puts cases the lens because they didn't own it. It could just be my copy of lend. And indoors just sitting around for a few shots it seems fine. Go out for a few hours an every 2 minutes it needs to be reconnected to come back on
