I still haven't seen confirmation that Canon 2.8/200L (II), 4/300IS and 100-400IS II (at the long end) work well with A7R2 and Metabones IV with latest firmware, or maybe one of the alternative adapters. But maybe I missed something? None of the Sony alternatives are attractive to me ...

I guess that as the 2/135 works fine the 2.8/200L works as well because it is similar generation.

My ca. 15 year old Canon 4/300IS works fine on A7RII/Metabones IV with the latest firmware.

(In relatively dim light AF is precise, a bit slow on the longer focus movements, but fast on smaller adjustments.)

My recent experiences with the 50L and 85L II on A7rII with the MB IV v.47 are superb. I now prefer the rendering and look I get with these two lenses on the A7rII compared to my M240 and 50 Nocti f/1.0 and 75 Lux.

With the 50 Nocti f/1.0 and 75 Lux, focus accuracy was always an issue on the M9/M240, but having accurate AF on the A7rII has dramatically changed my thinking.

Jason Lanier has just posted a video on his experiences with the A7rII and 50L with the MB IV. This was the supposed secret lens that Sony Rumors

I was away for a few days and kind of late to the party . While I love the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 for its optical performance and portability but the Canon 50mm f/1.2L produces something that the Sony cannot match.... f/1.2. The AF on the A7r II with Metabones (latest firmware) is sweet. I had this lens, sold it since I couldn't get really satisfying results at wide open on my Canon body and I recently bought this lens again. I am enjoying this lens more now; ironic how that works. It is sharp, even at wide open.

BTW, the exif indicates f/1.3 but it is wide open. For whatever reasons, Metabones doesn't display f/1.2.

Now things are a bit stabilized with firmW 0.47, how would you compare AF with 5DIII/1DsII ? Speed, reliability and acquisition in low light ? With lenses like 24-70/2.8II, 70-200/2.8II, 16-35/4, 85/1.2II, 135/2 ?

Is it really on par with Canon bodies ? Specially for interior shooting kids is poor lighting ?

The 50/1.2L indeed creates a special look but there is visible residual spherical aberration at large apertures. On the above shot you can see coma towards the edges of the frame.
To make Metabones show "1.2" instead of "1.3" on the exif data you need to change the exposure steps from "0.3" to "0.5".

Yup, I agree but so far it doesn't bother me much, if any . Thanks for the tip to change the exif, Fred!

I have been using the 24-70mm Mark II and the 135mm f/2 quite a bit lately. The AF works well enough for non-stationary people, even under less than ideal lighting conditions. But if the kids moving fast, I am not sure. For sure not as sure footed as in Canon bodies but with the face detection enabled, it is actually quite good actually. That mode latches on the target quite well. But since small kids do move erratically, I would say your results will vary, depending on the conditions.

For anything of real importance and tougher conditions, I have found the 24-70L II must, for me, be used on the 5DIII. Otherwise the A7RII is fine but it all depends upon the conditions and event. I often carry both as they both have their strengths.

thanks, I decided to splash the cash on the metabones IV and it can AF all the EF lenses that I own.
One thing that annoyed me, that all the copies that I tried (4 of them) the metabones were very tight on the cameramount side, not happy to have scratches on my brand new A7RII...

I am....though still buying F mount lenses, more love to invest on L lenses if adapted ones work on A7rII....so I can set my feet on both boats.
Still loving 135L, for its weight and performance.
Wondering how I can get Canon native color rendering from a Sony camera.

It seems that (conspiracy theory) the usability of a new lens on Sony camera is set by the manufacturer beforehand. My relative old 120-300 OS works great on Sony bodies but how can a newer 150-600 sport fails to do so.

Only things keeping me from upgrading now is long exposure noise at low iso bulb

OK, thanks for the info. I use the 4/300IS mostly closeup, but in good light. I guess I shouldn't have too high expectations for AF speed and maybe use some kind of manual pre-focus to speed things up.. The 4/300 AF isn't very fast on my current 450D either and I mostly use MF there.

Does anyone on the board have any experience with the A7r2 and Canon 200 F2? Would be curious how that setup performs specifically in respect to auto focus with the MB4 adapter.

Somewhere on this thread, I remembered that there was a post indicating that the Canon 200mm f/2 works well with Sony A7r II and Metabones IV. Since it is a recent lens, its FL is only 200mm and its aperture is fast, I wouldn't doubt that it would work. Just FYI, the Canon 300mm f/2.8 Mark II works just fine with that combo.

I'd imagine the 200mm F/2 IS teamed with an a7rii would be magic.

Not on Fotga or Commlite either. 135 f2L AF on a Metabones IV is patchy*.

*I was expecting much better AF performance from the 135 f2L. Dave Dugdale mentioned he was getting sick of adapter and the disappointment of the MB IV 135 f2L combination leads me to believe he may be right.

Sony, more FE lenses please.

Edited.

In darker conditions it hunts more than the 24070II. For rendering it does very well.

Paul, I don't remember saying that. Actually, I am impressed with the AF of that lens with Metabones IV (latest FW) in combo with the A7r II.

....I am buying an LeA3.. adapter from Japan. Oddly enough there has never been a single shipment of LA ea3 since the launch of A99.
