Question.. I'm new to Nikon just acquired a D500 & 200-500. Is it normal for the image to jump with VR on in normal mode? When I press the shutter the focus point jumps? Just checking with you all.
Thanks for any help with this.

I'm also fairly new to Nikon. I also noticed the jumping points which is annoying and has resulted in frames where the framing is off in a burst. My Canon bodies don't do this, at least not to the extent of the Nikon. But I believe it is normal behaviour of the Nikon VR system.

Thank you for your reply.. I never used the IS on my Canon gear. The jumping just caught me by surprise. Thanks again.

Try the sport mode instead of normal for vr. My experience has been that sport vr is incredibly stable and I almost never turn it off. Unfortunately it's only on the new E lenses.

I've no idea what everybody is talking about with these "jumping points" - but I've never shot Canon. Anyway, yes to the Sport mode on the 200-500. I never turn it off.

I will give the Sport mode a try next outing. I will also just try with VR off as I've been shooting at 1/2000 and faster for most shots recently.
Of course it isn't the points jumping, it is the image moving vertically in between shots.

I've noticed the jumping focus point in the viewfinder is only when using continuous focus with VR set to normal. Christian, Canon IS is the same but I have never seen jumping focus point. Its no big deal I was just checking to see if my lens was bad. I will also set my VR to sport setting.
