I hear ya Patrick.... I haven't used my FT-1 much since getting the CX 70-300VR either! That lens is superb in good light. I've had great luck with it birding recently as well, but in poor light, the D750 sensor shines compared to the V2, so I've tended to put the 200-500 on and go out shooting.... This was the first time I mounted the 200-500 on the FT-1 and V2 combo.... I'm relatively happy with the results.

In the few days I've had the 7100 and the 200-500 I've had much the same experience.
I do wish with the FT-1 we weren't stuck with the centre point. Single point is fine with me - just wish I could move it round a bit. Being stuck with the centre point makes it that much harder to use the whole frame and take advantage of all that reach.

Well I am not the experienced poster you are Will so had not learned the folly of doing so before now.
I also have a serious caffeine dependency - 15 yrs ago the anaesthestist put some in my IV to help with withdrawal after surgery!

I've rented this to use from a heli to shoot a yacht race on Sat. Sigma 150-600 was too heavy and expensive to rent in case weather calls it off.
It is a good balance between reach and weight. Shame the 'active' VR mode is missing given I'm shooting from a vibrating platform I guess this is a consumer lens. I'll have to try with and without on normal once I get airborne.
It's a ZOOM lens...with 420mm most definitely included in it's range.
