Why are the lens sample photographs always so small? You can't tell much by looking at these small images.
I hate that, too, but I have seen the sample images at full size somewhere. I will look later today and see if I can find them again. If the EXIF is stripped out, you can use that Nikon Asia site as a reference for the EXIF data.
Anyone know if this lens is weather-sealed? I don't see it mentioned anywhere, but looking at the images of it it almost looks like there might be a rubber gasket at the mount. The images are so low-res I can't tell for sure though, and at this price point Nikon might have left out sealing.

It is, but whether it's a gasket at the back or full blown sealing I haven't been able to tell. Even cheap lenses have a gasket so it will at least have that. Looking at it's competition and price point, I doubt it will be fully sealed like a 70-200/2.8.

Thanks Mark, good to know. I agree - probably not the best sealing, but good to have a little at least.

^^ I believe the expected availability is September 17th, so we have a couple more weeks to go before people start getting them.
Right, but usually we see some Nikon photogs out testing Nikon bodies and even sometimes a video ahead of the release date. With 2 and a half weeks before its due to ship I would have thought something more would pop up online by now. Due the hold a tighter leash on lens info before release? I have not really paid much attention until now.
I guess will Fall sports here I am pretty excited to see it in action somewhere!

The I shot the pre-production lens for a day reviews and the I just got my new lens reviews, generally, go wanting for useful data. The Nikon selected guys/gals really can not say much and the latter are in love with their new glass.
If one is not in a hurry, wait a month or two for the reviews that are a little more objective.

Brad Hill of Natural Art Images will likely have a great review up soon after release. He had many great posts about the 400mm f2.8 E and the Sigma 150-600 S when they came out as well.
Some of these images are in much higher resolution if you right click them and select "view image" (in Firefox) or copy their locations and open in new tabs.

Looks pretty decent, thanks for the link. Judging by the photos of the lens and specs on B&H, it extends about 3", making it just over 13.5" at 500mm. And the hood adds nearly 5", for an almost 18.5" total length at 500mm with hood. Big lens, but not as much of an extension as I expected.

A bunch of full-res samples here along with a very brief "review". It's a little difficult to read but with google translate you can get the gist of most things:
Samples at the bottom are with a D7100. The reviewer seems to like it, but it's not a very thorough review.
I also found a Swedish blog with more full res samples from a D810. This particular reviewer says it's sharper, has better stabilization, and focuses faster than the Sigma or Tamron variants. He also compares AF speed favorably to the 70-200/2.8 VR II and 300/4 PF VR (quieter and as fast or faster). Claims negligible CA as well, and says it is in his opinion best in class:
