yesterday, I purchased my 200-500 and I’m very, very happy.
but, when I see your pictures, I say to myself that I must work very much to be able to produce such great images.
Fabien.
Thank you so much for the kind words. Enjoy your new lens.

I finally got to try mine out in reasonable weather (a brief sunny spell between storms coming off the Atlantic) and I'm happy with it. Sharpness is excellent at 500mm f/6.3 and not at all bad at f/5.6 either. VR is excellent and, while AF is a little slow, the performance is improved by switching it to 6m-infinity rather than have it enabled for the entire range.
For those of us who can't afford/justify the cost of a nice 400 or 500mm prime this is a decent alternative.

They're usually long gone to the south by now. The warmer season has kept them here.
No, I don't believe in global warming, just that it's unseasonably warm this year. The Earth has always done these things.

I enjoyed looking through this thread and the lens looks like a winner. I have experience with both the Sony 70-400 and the Canon 100-400L (first version of both lenses.) One thing that is annoying with these lenses is the bokeh can be very harsh in busy backgrounds.
This Nikon seems to handle bokeh a lot like the telephoto primes.
