Still using this lens a lot mainly wide open and cropping heavy on the D850 , was hoping to get a 500mm PF around New year but the usual problem of low stock

I have been considering this lens a while to capture birds in our garden. It went on sale today, so broke down and bought one to try on my Z6. Hope to post here soon.

Three Mountain Goats near Alpine Wyoming...
I was hoping they would make there way down a little closer but they were content to stay up high in the hills.

I had never used the Nikon 200-500 until yesterday. A fellow photographer offered to lend me his copy as we shared a fantastic morning photographing eagles on the Iowa River. What a great lens!
Both these shots were taken with the D500.

Just ordered a Nikon 200-500, got a PD Slide for my D810 (I have six of these damn things) and got a nice Think Tank back pack to store the lens in. I wasn't expecting to enjoy walking around and photographing animals so god damn much, it's very relaxing.

Reading back a dozen pages or so and seeing some amazing images. Question for you guys whom may have tried the 70-200 VRII with the TC-20 iii. I know it will be shorter with 400mm, but does it compare IQ wise to the 200-500?
Reason I ask is because I plan on getting a 70-200 VR or VR2 (heard the VR2 plays well with the TC-20 iii) and was just curious if it comes close to the performance of the 200-500VR.
