Would a CFAST card slot be downward/backward compatible with a CF card? If not, then having two such slots is not necessarily a good idea.
Why not, if you want 24MP and 14FPS...no CF card is going to cut it.....we need to progress....Nikon has already tried 3 years ago with QXD and having split slots was stupid. I'm sure the D5 will go dual QXD and that is what the D4 and D4s should have had or it should have stayed at dual CF as they didn't need the speed for 16MP at 11FPS.
sorry but CFast is the way to go. You are looking at a $6000 body. $600 in cards for 4 64gb cards is just an accessory cost. Plus this thing is out for 4 or 5 years... have to plan for the future.

Plus, you'll be able to buy CFast cards at Best Buy within a year or so.
I wasn't successful at finding ordinary CF cards there a couple of years ago. According to the salesman, "nobody uses those any more".
Then again, our Best Buy store didn't sell anything farther up the line than the Rebel series and the 75-300 telephoto lens. On line, there are many more options.

For what size??....the 32GB is $117 and the 64GB is $179
Well, at that price, it's a different story. I was basing my opinion earlier on the speculation that these new cards would be enormously expensive. Not necessarily a problem for the high-end working pro, but for us ordinary schleps, something of a deal breaker.

Valid point. It was just an indirect suggestion that they'll become much more common and much less expensive, in the next few yaers. I buy mine on Amazon or at online photo shops when they're having a sale.
Another rumour regarding additional AF enhancements. Improved focusing in Liveview is almost a given with the advancements the other bodies have had in the meantime:

If you can spend $6k on a camera, then I think you could afford $600 in CFast cards imo.
Can afford - vs. - willing to pay.
It would seem wasteful to throw out several CF cards while they are still serviceable. The lessons of the great depression, bestrewn upon me by my parents, still carry some weight. I can still hear Dad saying, "Waste not, want not".
I do realize that the 1-series body isn't for everyone - I'm not likely to be buying a 1Dx II any time soon (assuming they produce one), primarily because I'm not likely to fork over $6000 for a body. Yes, I've paid more for a lens, but the lens should last for several body generations.

I need at least 1TB of cards for a 2 week trip and 1.5 for three weeks. Cost and weight are often issues internationally.

Are you not able to back up to a HD or laptop while on the road. I traveled to Antarctica and only used 2 32GB CF cards in the 1DX and one in the 5D3. The rest is backed up to portable Seagate drives and my laptop SSD.

I like that rumour....I don't think I need over 100 AF points like D5 might have but would love a wider spread and return to lit up points in AI Servo that you can see in all situations like 1D4.

It depends on the destination. I have an upcoming. trip with a 20kg weight limit. That's a total including clothes, gear and accessories. I'll probably push it to closer to 30, but something has to give and that will be the laptop.

Do they count what you wear for the 20kg? If not maybe you need something like this http://www.brit.co/jaktogo/
Ditto. In addition, I'd like to see built-in GPS, and the ability to do long exposures without having to use Bulb. Not sure why this can't be built in as regular extended settings. I'd also like to see the build quality go back to what prior 1D models had. My 1DX is much more prone to nicks and scratches than any other 1D series camera I have ever owned, and I am not hard on my cameras, they just get a lot of use. I'd also like to see the ability to review larger numbers of images in the camera like the Nikons do rather than just a handful at a time. I'll probably think of a few more things later.
