I thought the big rumour was it would have all new sensor with best DR and dual digic 7. 24MP would be fine, but AF improvements are always welcome. Hopefully it has all AF points X-type to f/5.6, selectable AF points at f/8 (just like Nikon), and AF down to -3EV to name a few improvements.
I have to say if the camera was able to provide all points at f/8 I would buy the thing no matter what the cost and even if nothing else was improved. I do a lot of 1200 f/8, 560 f/8 and 784 f/8 shooting and if I had all my points it would be worth putting out $7000 for me.
I think since the 7D2 has all x point, we hopefully will see that at least on the 1DXII, AF down to -3EV should be a given as all the newer ones do that.
I personally think they should look at improving high ISO DR and not low ISO DR if that is possible. Most 1DX shooters are not using it at ISO 100-400.
Working as a sports photographer 12 FPS is fine, no real need for more MP either. IMHO improvements that matter the most would be in areas of high ISO (>10,000 it's good now but can be improved so less initial editing is involved), overall AF speed & especially in low light. And while they are at it, bring back the true RED focal point in the VF which was quite helpful in many shooting circumstances.
CFast? Well ok but only if both slots support it.
The hard part with this line of thinking is that there might not be enough "new & improved" to justify the introduction of a new body. Unfortunately adding the obvious others most likely will keep me from considering an upgrade. Guess we'll see...
A silent shutter would be a nice thing but not critical. Illuminated focus points in AI Servo would be good. Wider focus point coverage would also be welcome. Improved battery life should be on the enhancement list. Are all these things worth shelling out $6 - 7k for the ver 2. These are enhancements and not game changers and for me, I'd be a little reluctant to pay the premium price.

Actually for wildlife a silent shutter is a big deal. I can see that birds always are startled by the 1DX's shutter if I'm in close. When I switch to S mode they don't respond. The 5D III silent shutter is better than the 1DX's. I hope thye can offer a high speed silent shutter option even if it is only say 6fps..

I agree, a more silent shutter like the dead silent 7D2 would be a huge benefit for wildlife and birds. None of my birds notice the 7D2, they all look over or flee with the 1DX. Although typically if they don't flee, they usually ignore the shutter after the first few clicks and aren't bothered. Mostly this is bald eagles I'm talking about but also had the nesting red-necked grebes behave the same.
Given the fact that the 1DX already has a FF sensor with great AF and high ISO IQ, it's going to take a significantly large update for me to spend that kind of money. Even then, I'm not sure I would do it as the better option might be to get a refurbished 300/2.8 II or 200/2 which might offer me more return for the money. In the same vein, if Canon increases the cost up into the $8000+ range I think I would be more tempted by the 400/2.8 or 200-400/4.
I would love to see them return to the bright red AF points. That really was a usability downgrade for me. I also agree about a quieter shutter. The 7D2 is really nice for equestrian events and skittish horses.

If Canon thinks the market will accept an $8000 24MP camera in 2016 they are smoking crack. They need to price the 1DX II at a sensible $4999 max. I can tell you for a fact the profit margin on the 1DX is well over 50%, so they have plenty of room to move and lower prices and still make a nice profit.
A silent shutter is something I want as well. But is it the game changer that will make me gladly fork over $6-7k for ver2? I'm not sure. Illuminated AF points in AI Servo, better DR, improved low/high ISO performance along with a new 24mpx sensor would sway me.
1DX Mark II? Whoa, time does fly... for me, the 1DX was just yesterday.
Though, of course, I'm in no hurry/position/need to even consider anything beyond my 1D Mark IV - for the first time in my life, I'm owning a camera that does not leave anything to be desired - it'll be interesting to see where the high-end scramble will take Canon. Especially since they've put the heat on themselves by releasing the very capable all-around 5D Mark III...

I would love to see a return to $4999 but I don't think that will happen. With declining sales I can't see them lowering the profit margin on high end gear. Well off enthusiasts will buy it at any price anyways.

The way they absolutely fleeced "musthaveit" now early adopters of the 200-400L is proof of that. In the UK it retails for only 70% of the release price so its actually almost affordable now. The 1DXii will be released high, but drop faster than any other pro body I think.
At some point, as the MPs get maxed out and the sensitivity gets better, a pellicle mirror starts to make sense. Live continuous view, opportunity for higher frame rates. I don't know if we are there yet, but we're close. That would be an interesting video method also with dual pixel AF.
I really like my 1DIII and after picking it up used one, I vowed always get a '1D' class camera- though the 5D family is getting more 'pro' as the generations go on.
10fps is nice, but even with U10 soccer I miss shots between. I'd like more and who doesn't want a better AF.
