I'm patiently waiting for this camera....or at least to see what it will offer....I've resisted the urge to try out a 5DS/R and will hopefully resist any 5D MKIV that may arrive.
However, more megapickles and more FPS is not enough to make this a desirable update to most of us shooting the 1DX. I think this camera really needs to come out with something new in the AF department and improve on DR at high ISO (very few using the 1DX care about low ISO DR). That is what could set this camera apart and allow Canon to continue to ask $7000 or even up it to 1Ds $9000 territory if they dare
What do others want in this camera?....and no I don't care to hear about your Sony, or your 5DS or your D810... I want to hear from the 1DX fanbois....
Well...to me I agree....that improvements in the AF and better quality in the range of ISO would
be sweet!!!
I too feel that 12 fps is enough...and if you add to the file size....it mandates the CFAST cards
and that is expensive!!! But I truly believe that the CFAST cards are in the near future for
their pro bodies
Lets hope that Canon don't take the approach that the "pro" body needs to be strictly for
elite "rich" people......hopefully it will stay in the range the 1Dx started at or near it.

Yes I hope pricing stays at 1DX levels or even drops to 1D4 levels. At least in Canada I get an immediate discount with my CPS membership (dealer price) but with the horrible exchange rate we may see a huge premium in price in Canada over the US price if it releases and our dollar is still in the pits.
I also don't like the idea of having to buy another bunch of expensive memory cards but you are probably right that Canon will go to that in the next one. If they do go CFAST, I would rather have dual CFAST and not one CFAST and one CF like Nikon did on the D4/s with the mixed slots. Give it to me all and I'll pay to pay or leave it at CF if that is doable.

Realistically I would not expect more than 24MP from a 1DX II. It might even have only 22MP. The Nikon D5 will be the benchmark.
Camera processing speed is topped out currently on the 1066x of CF cards
if they want the buffers to go faster....the CFAST card is the only current answer
to the next body

XQD is fast too, but I believe Canon is in the CFast camp. I have 1472GB of the 1066 or 1000x cards, so spending ~$3500 to replace them is undesirable now.
Most likely I would not have use for a 1DX II unless it is out before December 15 of this year. Otherwise It would be September-October 2017 if I'm even allowed to photograph by that time.
There's really nothing I can think of that would make me shell out money for a 1DX successor. I too would like the same speed and build in a crop sensor body, though.
I recently added a sony rx100 iv to the canon family and shooting at 16fps and slow motion for the past few weeks kind of changes some perspective on high speed sports shooting and short 4k video clips. It doesn't have the focusing precision of a 1D or bulky size, but I was recently shooting some baseball and the little sony shooting at high speed was pretty impressive. It has to be tough for canon to figure out how they can charge $6-$7K for a camera with more AF points, faster AF, faster fps, and an incremental bump of megapixels when these lower costing models are increasing their presence as useful tools.
12Fps is plenty for me in fact I normally dial back to ten.
My main wants would be an improvement in Hi ISO noise performance...better Center point AF accuracy in very poor light...improved DR or better shadow recovery performance than the 5Dsr which is very good.

Agreed that these compact cameras are increasing in functionality as amazing rates.
Certainly, the 1DX/D4/D4s has advantages but at 6k or 7k dollars, it's a leap.
The difference for me is in glass; quality and reach.
And high iso performance; I spend half my year photographing sports indoors where I usually start at iso 6400.
If I'm not mistaken, canon said the new 1D and 5D will bring a brand new sensor which should bring new things like a higher DR and better ISO performance.
I'm just waiting for them to deliver these, as I'm already leaning to get a A7rII by the end of the year.
The 1Dx is certainly the best camera I've ever used, by a long shot. If we could get 30% additional resolution (24MP) and better image quality at ISO 1600-4000, I'd buy the successor camera.

Faster video frame rates would be nice. Just slap a 1DC heatsink behind that sensor and crank it to 240fps please.
That twisty CF door tab should be replaced with something like the Nikon push button from their D3/D4 for super quick card retrieval operation
Totally agree about the CF tab...hate that thing....I much prefer the way the 5D/7D works. Personally I don't care about video but sure would be nice for those who do.

Well sorry, but since I was never happy that Canon dropped the 1.3x crop body, I would rather see a 1D Mk V.

I guess for me the problem is I bought a 1D4 when it was already getting long in the tooth. I loved the FPS and that drove me towards a 1DX but I never loved anything else about the camera. I don't like the AF points on it and I didn't find the IQ to be as good as my 5D3 and no where near the 1DX.
If Canon could give us a 1.3 crop with IQ that matches the current 1DX then I would also see benefit from the crop factor...but not sure if they can and I'm fairly sure they won't. Too much fanfare when they amalgamated the lines.

I thought the big rumour was it would have all new sensor with best DR and dual digic 7. 24MP would be fine, but AF improvements are always welcome. Hopefully it has all AF points X-type to f/5.6, selectable AF points at f/8 (just like Nikon), and AF down to -3EV to name a few improvements.
