I've seen wonderful shots with the 300PF by folks using the 1.4, the 1.7 and the 2.0.
I think IQ goes down as you go up eh, but the 300PF is so good it can tolerate even the 2.0.

This lens is still at the top of my "want" list. I had the opportunity to try it out on a camping trip to Hallo Bay. One of my guides let me take his out one evening and since I had been lugging my Sigma 150-600 S on a tripod for 4 days I took him up on the offer. I would have preferred to have the reach of the Sig at the beginning of this fishing sequence as the wolf was further away, still got okay shots, just had to crop more than I would have liked, but what a joy to just wander around with this little prime and no tripod.
