Sorry, but those were shot at widely different times (see cobwegs and stray hairs. Also, 5D3 looks mis-focused, no critical focus plane is evident. Finally, the Sony looks over-sharpened (see details along side of nose-to-check, very crinkly. If you want to show A-B comparison, first make sure it is you taking the shots, and done under completely controlled circumstances, at the same time.
PS -- same goes for the 7D2 vs. Sony 6000. Get your technical together properly if you want people to respect your efforts. Again, I don't believe you took these shots, but maybe I'm wrong. What's the "chain of custody" on these comparisons?

For the studio work I'm doing right now, it will be awesome. Can use the same 5D3 grip, same batteries, higher resolution and not many issues with DR as I use ISO 100 constantly and control the light.
But on the other hand, I was hoping for a replacement for the 5D3.
I'm starting to consider the A7r again. If sony brings out a new A7r based on the new A7II, I might not go with the 5Ds.
So no preorder from me ...Show more →

It's kinda funny hearing people complain because this camera doesn't meet their needs. Complaining about missing a shot of a flag waving and what not. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Sure under exposing at low ISO and pushing the shadows works. But I'm sure this clever lot could think of another way to get that shot.
There will always be technical limitations but I have no doubt we will be seeing some utterly amazing images being produced by this this tool. Can't wait.

Granted the zoom in on the face was a small area of the frame, but there is so much garbage in the Sony picture, it looks like the sharpness was pushed way too hard somewhere... or that really is what an AA-less Sony sensor looks like as is. I don't know.

Yes, there are sharpening artifacts in the Sony.
mttran -- Was this the exact same lens used in all these shots? It should be for any reasonable validity.
Who knows about the focusing with different types of camera bodies -- how do you ensure that the exact same critical focus was attained, especially given the evidence of different shooting dates.

Okay, so looks like I can save a lot of money and just keep my existing 5D2 bodies and go happily taking portrait, product, architecture and landscapes images with all those amazing Canon and Zeiss lenses I have.
It would be fun to snag a 5DsR nameplate and stick it on my existing 5D2 body just to fool the other photographers out there when they see me.

Image Resource site has "Comparometer" to compare output between products for a reason. I am sure most samples should be handled in controlled test environment. If you have problem of any of them contact them directly: http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
Try that first before use your bread and butter insulting people. Be NICE, really don't want to repeat this again

Hey, you're the one citing these examples to prove your point. And you didn't even give attribution the first set that they weren't YOUR images. Your not showing anything that is useful other than the broadest possible parameters -- these cameras shouldn't be compared with these examples, since so many factors are conflicting.
Better luck next time establishing some reliable comparisons. Try doing your own work and presenting it to support your points.

The great thing today is that we have so many fantastic lenses from third parties like Sigma ART and Zeiss Otus that comparometers should be using instead of native glass which leaves too much variance. Here's a side by side of the Nikon, Canon, and Sony shot on the Sigma 50 ART with same everything else.
That's how you do it. The 5D3 may have a 24-105 on it and the Sony may have an FE Prime. I don't know, but it doesn't say.
Starting at roughly 2:00 into the video, he says, "Basically dynamic range is going to be equivalent to the 5D Mark 3, in traditional measuring terms, but there is a much lower noise floor, so therefore more ability to pull out detail in the shadows and highlights".
1. Isn't that what everyone here is calling DR - this ability to pull out detail in the shadows?
2. If this is merely a scaled out 7d2 sensor, where does the "much lower noise floor" come from?
It sounds to me like an increase in functional DR, and if it's real, it will be welcome. I can wait, I'm not interested in pre-ordering, but I am interested in the camera. I feel bad for the people who are desperately disappointed by the video specs, but that doesn't matter for me. I'd probably go for the 11-24 first anyway.

Reposting from another thread, where I wrote:
As I type this, my printer is in the process of spitting out a letter sized test print cropped from a 30" x 45" resize of [the Canon demo image of the downtown area] at 300 dpi. I took the area around the ferris wheel and the buildings just above it. (In other words, I'm printing a small section of the image at the same magnification that you would see in the full print.)
Waiting... waiting... (printer decided it was time to run a self-cleaning cycle)... waiting... ah, done.
OK, that is a very fine 30" x 45" image. The buildings look uniformly excellent — I would not guess that this small print came from such a large print. I can make out individual people on the sidewalks along the highway. I'm not seeing any smearing of detail anywhere. A potentially problematic area would be the spokes of the ferris wheel, especially where they overlay the lines of the buildings behind behind the wheel. Man, it really looks fine.
I've made prints this size before — not just crops — and if you print this large I think you are going to like the results.

And now, just for giggles, I'm doing one at 60" x 90" at 300 ppi and cropping a letter sized section out of the same area and making a test print...
... looking at the resized letter-size imageat 50% on the screen while it prints. Still don't see any moire, though I see what I take to be some slight smearing at the edges of sharp color boundaries. and similar. I'd tell you where they are, but you probably can't see them in the original image at 100%. (Look for blue road signs above the river along the highway just to the right of the ferris wheel.) OK, the print is about done...
OK.
If I handed you the letter-sized print cropped from the 30" x 45" image, very few would suspect that it is from such a large image. Most would probably think, "Not a bad letter sized print of your photograph — not great, but just fine." If I handed you the letter sized print cropped out of the 60" x 90" image (e.g. - from a 5' x 7.5' print) you would notice the softness. But... I'm still not seeing artifacts such as moire. I can see a bit of bleeding in a few spots where one color (say blue-green) is immediately adjacent to a different area. Not surprisingly, at this size I can see that the print is getting softer.
Whatever you think of the functionality of the camera or all the other stuff, even working from a jpg shot with an ultra-wide lens (which is contributing to the overall image quality), the 50MP sensor is capable of providing some remarkable image detail for those who might need it.

Bingo. Thank you. I caught that same line myself this morning and wondered. Not long ago I read a post from someone at CR in the forums talking about how if this was indeed an upscaled 7D2, that mathematically you should see (if memory serves) a 1 to 2 stop uptick in useable shadow detail. Now I don't what what "traditional methods" vs current methods means in the grand scheme, but if the 5D3 gave us 11 stops and this new machine gives us closer to 12-13, then ok. IF WE ALL START HAMMERING AWAY about adding a Dual ISO function built into the firmware from Canon (as opposed to a ML hack) then we could easily see 14-15 on a 50MP monster like this. I've already posted it on CPS Facebook page. I suggest we all do the same. It seems so easy a thing to implement between now and June.

13 stops was the number I was hoping for, and if in practice it indeed is around there I'd be more likely to consider this body (after all the initial reviews/reports on the body as a whole come in of course). $3700 is still way more than I was hoping for considering what everyone else's high MP bodies go for. For that price it needs to have 13 stops DR min for me to be a buyer. Don't really care about video, don't need fast FPS, as long as ISO is usable up to 1600 max I'm happy, also don't care about gps, wifi, etc. Hopefully the one spec I was hoping for (in addition to more than 22mp) comes through.
*shrug* maybe by Christmas rebates will kick in, plus hopefully by then Nikon has announced a reply and Sony and Pentax have their new 50mp bodies (which likely will be cheaper) and that'll drive the price down some.

Oh, thanks for the correction. I thought most countries with VATs required businesses to always quote their prices with the VAT included. Is that not the case in Canada?
