I had to put the cone of shame onto one of my cats, who then couldn't eat or drink. I wound up getting onesies for her to wear, newborn size fit her best. Cut a slit in the bum section to slide her head through, then put back legs into arms, tail through head spot. Maybe kids one piece pajamas would keep him from chewing on the sutures.
We've had to tightly manage our Molly the beagle with this cone and sutures business. It itches, they want to lick the sutures to oblivion or chew them out. If the cone is off, we're watching her. No exceptions. With Bruce's surgery right on the tendons and the nerve in that tight area, I wouldn't want him chewing at that site for a second. When the bandage comes off, everything is exposed.
Yes, I know, it's a pain....
Molly's stitches come out tomorrow, but I won't trust her then, not for a couple of days.
Well, we know the beagle/cattle dog mix version of it. Molly sleeps with hers on now. We take it off for her to go out on pee/poop runs and for meals. Occasionally she has it off if she's on the couch asleep with one of us right next to her.
Otherwise, it's on. She turns so fast to chew at the surgery site you just have no chance to get to her fast enough. I would never leave her in a room alone without the cone. As the suture area heals, they feel it. It itches, for sure. So they go after the problem the only way they know.

We put the cone on for the night yesterday as he was getting a bit too interested in his bandaged leg. Got stressed the hell out and unhappy about it.
He's a total drama queen. We took the thing off so he can eat today - took eyes off him for 1 minute and he was on his incision like a hawk. Luckily didn't manage to rip the sutures out but managed to get it nicely wet. Bet it sets back the removal by a day or two.

Greg - so sorry to hear of your loss. They are truly part of our families and unfortunately aren’t with us long enough. They offer unconditional love and only want some attention and treats in return.
