Pretty sure this is the first photo I've posted on fm. Pretty hard not to want to join this thread. Anyway this is my girl.

Looks like it was one of the good workshops Mike. get in close, and if the image doesn't work, get in even closer until it does.

In the first picture I would have maybe stopped down, to get more of the nose inside the DoF. In the 2nd shot, I would have preferred less background, but again, just a single stop or thereabouts.

One thing the workshop possibly forgot to mention, get on eye level with your subjects. With dogs, that often means get flat on your belly, even if that means getting wet trousers. The shots are worth it!

Apparently, greyhounds are the only dogs to have both their feet off the ground when running at both full extension and when their feet are tucked under.

Apparently not

To prove this, I borrowed some photos from my girlfriend, who is also registered on this forum under the name kruemmelkasper

These photos were taken using either the D800 and 180mm f2,8 AF-D or the D800 and Sigma 135mm f1,8

DSC_8204-2 by Amy Lumi, on Flickr

Those were at full extension

Tucked under

I can vouch for the fact that Amy does touch the ground in between these phases of loco-motion. She's not one of these rare flying dogs

I wouldn't call that off the ground like the greyhound, only a few mm. The greyhound is well clear of the ground, I've seen ours with her feet a good 12" off the ground on both extension and contraction.Your photos are like those from the walking race.

Sure thing Lance. This is not a race.

FTR though, Amy is 670mm to the shoulder. Take a look at photo #2. Imagine a dog underneath Amy. She'd clear it, so that's a good 15-20" off the ground with all fours at least. But I agree. Amy is a minimalist. All her effort goes in forward motion rather then height. Makes your average Greyhound look like a turtle. When she jumps a log, she just clears it by a few millimeters as can be seen in post #16 on this page #58.

Keep that focus on the eyes though. Your 2nd picture is a bit off

It seems as though it is.

Yes, she had just moved out of the focus group at that stage, she moves very fast! That wasn't the point of the photo either. Not a race you said.

My point about being clear off the ground is the bottom of the dog's feet can be up to 12" off the ground both at extension and contraction, not at the body. A greyhound a turtle? . Hmm, I doubt your dog would go anywhere near catching her. Didn't you say, "not a race?"
