He looks into it Will. I have a 13 month old boxer and he definitely likes sniffing around for "targets". Another great shot.

Sorry to take the thread down but our hearts hurt tonights so I need to type. Our Triumphs Von Whirling Thunder passed yesterday evening. He would have been 9 next month. We were on one of our walks with our other GSD and everything was great. Suddenly he lost his balance and laid down. I could see in his eyes the end was close. He had been a little off for a few weeks so I had a liver and kidney plus blood work done last week and all was negative. I am sure he either threw a clot or experienced a rupture of a tumor. I called my wife to where we were so I could get the truck to take him to the emergency vet. He kept fighting but as soon as possible I asked the vet to help him pass on. I held him tight until he was gone and that is as good as I could do for a dog that I consider a perfect example of his breed. He was ever vigilant of his family. He was serious but forever sweet. He was never aggressive but always ready to protect with his life (I could explain). His greatest joy was to please us and that he did until the day we had to let him go.
This picture was one of the last. Straight out of camera because I can't PP through the tears :-)
Sorry to rant but we miss him tonight!
Greg

Greg,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I can feel your heart ache as I too have experienced what it is like to lose a pet whom you love as a member of the family.
I am so glad that you found the strength to hold him in your arms to the very end as I also believe that it is the greatest gift that you can give your dog, taking his pain and suffering away. Oh my, the tears are welling up in my eyes as I type this. I truly believe that the love that he has for you will continue to live in your hearts forever.
God's blessings to you and your family. May He comfort you and give you peace in this very said time.
Best wishes, Don

Greg,
I'm so sorry for you and your family's loss. We have two black labs who are like our children so my heart goes out to you. Know that you did everything possible and take comfort in being there when he needed you the most.
Best wishes to you and the family,
Frank

Greg, I am so sorry. Losing your dog is like losing a family member, and not everyone understands that. Losing a special dog is especially hard, and a good German Shepherd is about as special as a dog gets.

Really sorry to hear Greg! A dog's life is never long enough but it sounds like he lived a full life.

Greg, your pup definitely had a loving owner, one who loved their dog enough to be able to let them go when the time came. There will be a time when you can revisit this photo and do whatever PP to it you desire.

Reminisce about him as much as you need to

Sorry for your loss Greg.... we don't currently own a dog as we've been traveling overseas for the last few years, but if I did, I'd like one like this...

Greg - sorry to hear this. We lost a Lab and a Basset Hound within 2 months of each other. The Lab was 13+ and had led a full life without any medical issues. He passed away unexpectedly last summer while we were on vacation to the US, we could not even meet him one last time. The Basset had been unwell due to cancer and we had to let him go. We were most worried about how our 8 year old would take it.
We now have a year old Golden Retriver who is a lot of fun. While we still miss our older dogs, this fellow keeps us engaged with his still puppy type energy. Take care.
