I just purchased a D700 and I am looking for a Zoom lens in the range of 24-105, or 24/28-80 F2.8 and Higher
I do mainly portraits with Flash( I never shoot wide open) and Family groups shots.
Something that Has Fantastic IQ, sharp, NOT too heavy and reasonable. for the D700

If you don’t really need the f/2.8, the 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 AF-S VR was a kit lens which came with D600 and others, and isn’t a bad walk-around lens. They are dirt cheap used, much lighter than the 2.8 glass, and when used at f/5.6-11 they are pretty sharp. I have the older pre-VR version which was included with a D800 I bought used, and I’m amazed how good it is. If you want to pixel peep in the corners, the pro glass is better, but for many proposes it’s plenty good enough.
