Just switched over back to Nikon last week. I should be getting my less than 1k shutter actuation D700 in the mail next week. I'll be posting some pictures starting next week on this thread.

I just hit 11k on mine. When I got it, had a tad over 10k.
I just got a D700, after using the D7000 for around 3 years. I've had a D200 and D70s too. Not sure why I waited other than trying to shoot a lot more lately.
I still think the D700 is relevant to me. I actually loved the D200 and would've kept using it except that the D7000 was just more pragmatic, and smaller. Not sure how I skipped the D300.
The D700 takes care of all the complaints I had, including being affordable now. I was mostly OK with 6mp so 12 should be fine. Speed, good ISO, access to wide FX lenses, excellent skin-tones like the old D70/D200 "CCD-ishness" that I always preferred anyway, better viewfinder and button layout, blah blah blah.
Guess I'm rambling now but, I'm looking forward to putting my first significant shots on the D700 this upcoming holiday weekend.

kwoodard Thank you
It's really a testament to how capable the D700 is. I used a Singh Ray Vari ND and probably was shooting threw 6 stops or so ND filtration. I could have never got to those shutter speeds, a 40th and a 15th without it. It was pretty dusty also. I bought the D810 with me thinking that with almost two stops on the bottom of the ISO range, I wouldn't have to shoot threw basically black glass To dusty for my new 810 though
It's a great camera. You'll love it. I take 12800 shots sometimes and forget that this is 2007 tech. Nikon's handling of grain, which looks like film grain allows easier cleanup in post than any other camera maker I've experienced.
I've done weddings with 6400 iso shots that look fantastic.

After the first shot I took, I was really surprised due to the shutter sound. I used a 6D, 5D MK II, MK III and a bunch of crop sensor cameras and none sounded this good.
Can't wait till the weekend to take some snaps

Well, even die hard Canon fans will admit that Nikon shutter sound is the best in the industry. It just has a pleasant clack.
My Canon T2i sounds like a silenced pistol from James Bond movies.
Here is the shots of my D700 with only 10k shutter count. I bought the body from local craigslist for $500. Then I quickly get the zeiss 35mm f2, and 85mm f1.4d. I also have canon 6d, 70d with some good canon lens. But now I am grabbing the D700 every time. It feels good when taking photos with this D700, especially with the Zeiss lens. I also got the Zeiss 21mm f2.8 on the way. Feel so exciting.

I wish I knew now what I didn't know then. All the headlines are about button sniffing bodies but when you've been doing this a while you realize that it's really all about glass, glass, glass!
