Philippe, thank you for the kind words Very nice with the 80 Lux!
freaklikeme and Jack, thank you too!!
Gary, wonderful landscapes, and just love the B&W conversions.
Jack great shots!!! The 50 Cron R, is just magic. I think I prefer your images with the 80 Lux though. Great stuff.
Ron, excellent shots! You will have to invest in the 75 Lux ?
Great shots everyone, as the thread is really gaining momentum!

Many great additions in one day!
Nice set Bradley. Which Summicron version you're referring as V5? Just checked Leica Compendium and according to Puts last version (1979 to current) was V4.
Optically, it's gone unchanged since then, but since the first M lens with the new optics had a focus tab and optional hood, it's commonly known as the v4, where the latest model has no tab and a built-in hood.

Gary, so you ended up with at least three M 50mm lenses. Hopefully all are to stay or Lux-50 ASPH wins hands down?
Sorry to say but I have quite a few more m-mount 50mm lenses. If you are talking only Leica, you are correct I only have two. 50lux asph will stay for sure and the 50cron may be sold. I have developed a good relationship with the 50cron so it is hard to separate.

Michael, great set! Always loved your portraitures' subtle PP, which goes well with sharp/but not sharp WO style of your shots.
freaklikeme: it makes sense regarding second version of edition of Cron-M 50 v4 to be referred to as v5. Thanks for pointing it out.
Gary: I checked your Leica thread posts and yep, you do shoot with few other 50s indeed!
Similarly, Cron-R 50 was my first Leica and alt lens so it will stay with me just for these reasons.
Couple shots from today`s trimming day at my backup barber shop `Dominion Barbers` in Gastown Vancouver. Note: `backup` as my sis-in-law is my dedicated hairdresser for a long time, waaaay before I married her sister, so `Dominion Barbers` are[!] highly recommended funky shop.
Oh, have no hair? NP as they do facial shaving as well.

OK, Finally getting to know more or less what I am doing with the 80 'Lux. The shot has no artistic value, but shows that the lens can be used wide open, which I thought wasn't the case.
Because Steve said that the Mandler glow was due to uncorrected SA, it stands to reason that his would be even worse at close range. Or do I have it wrong?

I don't think you have it wrong. Please check discussion below. Lux-r 80 may not be the sharpest at close distance, but at 4+ meters even wide open things change for much better.
However, if you decide to purposely use it at 2-3 meters distance, wide open, say for portraiture then the effects may be desirable.

Jack, your truck shot is absolutely epic! Like something from Spielberg's "Duel", only worse. And your last shot has me convinced that I need a 50 Cron V4. How do I know which is which when buying on E-Bay?
On my end, continuing to learn more about the 80 'Lux

Philipe - not sure if you were referring to my 50cron-M V4 shot or another one from Jack? If you (or anyone else) are looking for one, I will be putting mine up for sale in a couple of weeks....

Very nice image! The 80 Lux just has a look....I love it.
Jack...you're 90 Cron shots are quite fantastic....

I was struggling a bit with wide open shots with the R80. At first I was underwhelmed but after realizing just how narrow that depth of focus is I struggled some more and now I am starting to see what the fuss is all about. "Best results" so far have been at f-stop between f1.4 and f2. It definitely has a very special rendering and it is one of very few lenses I have seen that have really nice foreground bokeh as well.
Not sure if it is really my type of lens yet (after many years with Planar rendering) but I am starting to appreciate it though I feel that the R80 is a bit on the long side for me on APS-C format. I am not sure I want to source up a full frame camera just for this lens but I am sure it really comes to life on full frame.
A keeper? Don't know. If I had a full frame camera - hellayes. But with crop it is really too long for my needs.
Edit: added a photo but since Photobucket kills off sharpness I removed it. Will have to create an account somewhere where pictures are not being overly boiled down to pulp - suggestions?

Sounds like it's time to look for a cheap used a7.

Freaklikeme: The A7 might actually be a good candidate.
It would arguably be worth Leitaxing the R80. I also have (access to) a 28 Elmarit, latest version, which I have previously Leitaxed to Alpha mount. I sold it off to a friend who lives nearby and he doesn't have his A900 anymore.
