OK, Finally getting to know more or less what I am doing with the 80 \'Lux. The shot has no artistic value, but shows that the lens can be used wide open, which I thought wasn\'t the case.
Because Steve said that the Mandler glow was due to uncorrected SA, it stands to reason that his would be even worse at close range. Or do I have it wrong?

I don\'t think you have it wrong. Please check discussion below. Lux-r 80 may not be the sharpest at close distance, but at 4+ meters even wide open things change for much better.
However, if you decide to purposely use it at 2-3 meters distance, wide open, say for portraiture then the effects may be desirable.

I was struggling a bit with wide open shots with the R80. At first I was underwhelmed but after realizing just how narrow that depth of focus is I struggled some more and now I am starting to see what the fuss is all about. \"Best results\" so far have been at f-stop between f1.4 and f2. It definitely has a very special rendering and it is one of very few lenses I have seen that have really nice foreground bokeh as well.

Not sure if it is really my type of lens yet (after many years with Planar rendering) but I am starting to appreciate it though I feel that the R80 is a bit on the long side for me on APS-C format. I am not sure I want to source up a full frame camera just for this lens but I am sure it really comes to life on full frame.

A keeper? Don\'t know. If I had a full frame camera - hellayes. But with crop it is really too long for my needs.
