While I wait for someone else 🧐 to contribute to this thread here's one more and a color edit of one of my last images. Love the colors this lens produces.
Why is this lens/focal length not more popular? I love 300mm and there are times I feel 300mm is too tight. I don't understand all the "those people moved to 400mm" arguments.
Am I the only person here shooting this lens/if so why did you ditch it? My wife is lobbying me to buy her a Z9 ( 🤦🏼♂️ ) and 500mm PF - but both of us know its not a replacement for the 300...
Well Blake, count me in your group of Z9+300 F2.8 VR shooters. Different subject, lighting and ISOs for sure. Still learning with this camera, every day, every week since mid January.
Wonderful image - glad someone else is enjoying the lens! I saw a second one locally and nearly bought my wife the same lens so she’d stop stealing mine. 🤦🏼♂️

Yeah, I'm lucky to have two 300 2.8s in case one breaks... This is with the D4S, but shows how awesome this lens is at F2.8... these are the Nikon franchise lenses...

I love shooting at 300mm too. If I was forced to pick one lens, it would be a 300mm
I have a 300mm VR II (that I am currently selling on FM), and I rarely use it.
I bought it to shoot baseball, softball, and basketball. I then realized I find all 3 of those sports incredibly boring to shoot and I lost interest. The 300mm is an impressive lens though. It is tack sharp and the bokeh is almost surreal. I will probably regret selling the 300mm...
I love shooting football, so my 400mm is perfect. I have the new Nikon 400mm S Z version on what seems to be endless backorder, but I am expecting it to be a real game-changer due to the reduced weight and the instant flip-of-a-switch 1.4 TC capability.
I saw your lens listed near us (we're in McKinney for the moment) and I almost talked my wife into a second copy so she'd stop stealing mine but she has her eyes on the 500mm PF. GLWS.
