What a joy this thread has been to view and to contribute too! Anyone looking at the wonderful pictures here would certainly have to agree that this must be the web's best N&W forum
My third and final three. These aren't technically very good but they are three images I was pleased to get this year...

This is my wife work with "heavy artillery" - first time for her. All from costa Rica, with Nikon D7100 and 500f4 on tripod (the lens was on loan from our great guide, Randall Ortega Chaves. Thank You, Randall!).

Damn Thang, you post the most vivid shots I've seen. When the victim's expression (the fish) wow's me, that's good. But those grebe shots of yours are killers, in a good way!!! Congrats. Don

Excellent set Mike, I too like rain shots (well sometimes ) and this one is the reason why, it's a fabulous rain shot!! Getting the two owlets in one shot is the stuff of dreams, really well done
Real sweet set Mike, the way you used the light in all of these sets them apart from the crowd. I wish I had a loon that good!!!
Way cool shot narik001, that's the kind of shot that Namibia is legendary for!!!!
Superb work Socrate, just as I would expect from you I can see why the opener is one of your favorites, that shot just draws my in and doesn't let go. That one my friend is a real wall hanger, real large and in a very conspicuous spot. The birdies aint to shabby either
Killer work Greg! I saw the slurping plover and just grinned, what a shot!! The water in the OC image is stunning as is the background for the snowy.
You captured a seldom seen moment in the first Paul, I would be proud to call that one my own. The bittern is a rare shot that we seldom see here and if you want difficult, a KF coming up out of the water surely qualifies as that!!! Excellent work!!!
Absolute beauties psharvic!!! I had to call my wife in to see the dogwood, she loves them and she sure loves this one. All of these are simple, clean, classy images
Your wife has presented us some beautiful shots xelas, please pass along my compliments. The last shot is a stunner, I absolutely love that one
Top shelf work Thang, man these are spectacular Man I wish you post more often!!
Wonderful snowy Steve!!! Love those eyes
Splendid set David, just splendid!! You KNOW I'm going for the squirrel All of these are such great shots but I have a soft spot for your squirrels.

I have picked some Philly favorites - the Franklin Institute redtails - for the third round. In my professional life as an environmental political theorist I am interested in the politics of urban wildlife (human-animal conflict, urban environmentalism, post-nature environmentalism, the role of cities in green political thought generally.) In a paper I'm writing I use the FI hawks and the thoughtful environmental activism that has emerged around their presence to think about ways that urbanists and environmentalists sometimes collide but increasingly cooperate in our cities.
1. "T2" is the male red-tailed hawk who in 2012 "adopted" the Franklin Institute's female's three chicks when their father was killed by a vehicle collision on I-676. This year, the pair raised three chicks of their own. They were raised on squirrels, pigeons, goslings, and rats. Lots of rats!
