actually think it was about time you found us .. Although it don't seem that Ben has find the thread yet
After I posted the image of that little girl above, I found another image of her looking straight at the camera. Again, taken at wide open and the shallow depth-of-field renders only the close eye to be in sharp focus, while the other one is a tad soft. Still, I like that image and that lens is seriously capable of generating good images at wide open.
Again, I am not here to question the optical performance of the Zeiss Batis 85mm. Frankly, I would love to get my hand on it when it becomes available next month but the more I look at the images I took using the Zeiss ZA, the more doubt creeps in that the Batis would be a worthy successor for yours truly. If I didn't have the ZA, I would buy the Batis in a heartbeat for my portrait needs. And this only my personal opinion and I am sure not everyone would agree with me. At f/1.4 the ZA is a slightly faster lens and from my experience, it doesn't have any problems being used at that speed for a smoother bokeh or shallower depth-of-field, if that's what you are after.
Although the rendition of that little girl's eye is fine and it is sharp but at her young age, the features are not too contrasty and yes, she didn't wear any make-up either . So, I went back a look for an image of an adult for a little contrastier rendition and here it is. Both are full size first and cropped later. I hope you are not tired of my post related to this more than just once .
