Jordan, love all the shots, but I am favouring the B&W and how the A7II renders the image. Great stuff!
Amazing shots everyone!!!
Shots this afternoon trying out the A7II and WATE at Currumbin beach.
Shot 4 was using 1/12 sec ISO 50 and f/22, just to see if I could blur the waves and add some smooothness without a tripod relying solely on the IBIS
The first shot is Mt. Fuji from Satta Pass on the old Tokaido Road, afterwards climbed the 1300meter hill behind to the top for the second night shot. Usually I shoot landscapes with a 50mm Summicron or Zeiss planar ZM, but for some dumb reason I left both of them in my other bag. So I tried by CV 50/1.5 Nokton, not quite as sharp as the Summicron but close.
Most of my shots from the simply amazing Liusanjie show on the Li River in Yangshuo, China were taken with the 300/2.8 as the 'stage' (set in and on the river) covers an area of some 200-300m2 wide by up to 1 km deep (the mountains to the sides and across the river to the rear being lit up at times throughout the show. There are hundreds of participants and an audience in the thousands each night (all tourists to the region). It is an amazing spectacle and the largest show on earth.
Mttran....thank you for the kind words! Thank god both my boys got their moms good looks!!😉
Werner, Charles, Ryan , Frogfish, Michiel, and Alaskandood...very nice!
Ryan...I think the CV Nokton holds its own. Def different character than the Cron or the Planar, but I think you're right: I've foind the planar a bit sharper overall! I love mine, but my new fav is the Zeiss Sonnar 50 1.5...I love the way it draws, especially for people!!
Charles....I teally like the way the WATE draws. What an incredible lens!!
Werner...I wish I find the scenarios you do, so I could get the 16-35/4, but I can't justify it yet. Maybe when my boys are older and I can actually get out more!!
Alaskandood...I used to love the 85 1.4 ais on my 1D4...what a great lens!

Thanks! I like the B&W best as well. It's interesting that you mention the rendering. I also took a few shots with my a6000 with Rokinon 12mm, and the differences between the two cameras for landscape use are extremely small. There is very slightly smoother tonal roll off with the a7 II, but you have to look really close to see it, and I mean serious pixel peeping. Despite this fact, I still si ply love the A7II.the ergonomic changes make all the difference, and it's a camera that is wonderful to use.
This will probably be my last A7 post. It's been a mostly fun ride, but Sony's A7 quirks are slowing driving me nuts, and I think today was the last straw - seems like I fight the camera more than I should be, which diminishes the fun for me (to be specific - EVF sensor way too sensitive, no option to customize EVF/LCD swapping to a Fn button, slow power up at times, no ability to automatically disable EFCS when over 1/1000s, etc. etc).
Granted, a lot of these gripes are self-justification to switch gears for a while (undecided, but possibly Nikon DX), but they're also very legitimate concerns for me -- ones which unfortunately don't seem to have a prospect of being addressed by Sony.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the camera's output, though!

Really nice Gregg ..Sonnar f1.5 magic in the last shot
Have you bought the lens ?
Hi Ronny...Once I rented it, and saw the magic, I had to get one! It's not as sharp as my CV 50 1.5 or my Zeiss ZM 50 Planar , but it has a look that captures the moment, if you hit it right!! It has magic!!
So, yes I did, and Thank you, Ronny, for inspiring me to get it!! It's all your fault...so when the Wife finds out I bought another lens...can I blame it on you??

No, it's not as sharp as Planar .. but as I said before it has magic, character
if you hit it right ... and I think that Planar lacks a bit .. but Zeiss 50 Planar is certainly a better option in many situations..but I don't think it matters very much if it's not just as sharp ..
I myself am looking for that dreamy feeling @f1.5

True...and it's sharp corner to corner, where the Sonnar is lacking, but...it doesn't have that characteristic look where that Sonnar does. Two very diff lenses. I really like the Sonnar for portraits, so far...the magic really shines in people shots!!
