The Nocti is really great on the A7r. Despite heavy curvature of field, you focus on the eye in the upper right third, for example, and voila. You nail the focus every time. And now you see how often you have missed the focus there previously on the M9... Enough detail there for a composition without cropping.

nice to see you on FM, Ive been a fan of your work on flickr for a long time.

the noctilux shot is awesome. the a7(r) seems to have given a bunch of lenses a new lease on life; lenses that produced less than fantastic results on other cameras are all of a sudden perfectly fine. the f1 nocti has always been better than it's reputation though, IMO.

Canon 35-70mm f4 + Fotasy Rainbowimaging FD-NEX adapter + Sony A7r
WO (f4)

Adapter just arrived. Popped kit lens from wife's old 1973 Canon FTb on and went out to see if our equine neighbors would cooperate. What's old is new again!

Shoot first Contax G-series Planar T* 2/45 shots today. This lens is definitely very sharp, even wide open. But bokeh can be too edgy on wide apertures and even at f/11 on some circumstances. Rendering style is quite "Zeiss"-like, I think I'll like this lens when I get to know better. I took few landscapes, but visibility wasn't that great, but it seems this lens is very capable on larger distances as well.

Lens is also ridiculously small (I'm used to Zeiss ZE-series lenses on 5DmkII). It's focused via adapter, and mine works mostly OK but sometimes adapter struggles little (it does same without lens). If I really fell in love to these Contax G-lenses, then maybe Metabones adapter is needed (I now have Kiwi-branded, not cheapest but Metabones looks much better). It's hilarious how people struggle installing Contax G lens to adapter (did see some Youtube videos people complaining about it), it's very easy, at least with Kiwi branded adapters.

#1 Carl Zeiss Planar T* 2/45 @ f/2.0, 0.8s, ISO 100

#2 Carl Zeiss Planar T* 2/45 @ f/2.8, 1s, ISO 100

3# Carl Zeiss Planar T* 2/45 @ f/2.0, 1s, ISO 100

4# Carl Zeiss Planar T* 2/45 @ f/4.0, 2s, ISO 100

5# Carl Zeiss Planar T* 2/45 @ f/8.0, 4s, ISO 100

Nice shots. Yes, the G lenses are known for their high optical quality, but also for their quite distracting boke.

i actually find the 28 and 90 to have pretty decent bokeh, shame the 28 doesn't really work on the a7...

the 45 always looks too harsh for my taste, best if everything is in focus imho.

Wonderful images to all here!!!
Shots from last night. A7r and FE 55, in low light conditions. I am having a lot of difficulty in making sure features at infinity are nailed focus wise, in low light. AF is not accurate here, so I revert to MF. I am getting one shot in four that are 100% in focus, with shutter speeds at 1/125s. I would appreciate any help here? Last shot at 6400 ISO, f/1.8, pushed +1.5 in PP'ing.
Also the EVF with the FE 35 and 55 work perfectly well, compared to the issues I was having with the dark EVF with the 50 Cron Rigid DR. I don't fully understand this mechanism here yet!

This forum thread is easily my favorite so far while looking up the A7. So many great photos, lots of good info and inspiration. Special thanks to those that specify if they're using the A7 or A7R in each of their postings (so I don't have to remember or search backwards).

Look forward to getting an A7 in January and exploring Japan with it for a few weeks in March/April =)

man the fe 55/1.8 looks like a cant miss lens. I just LOVE the color Im seeing from EVERYONE. anyone else feel the same way?

speaking of color some lenses have impressed me with sharpness but not color. mostly the FD canons other than someone who posted some images from their 35 concave; what a lens that one is! anyway I think alt is gonna have to pull out the old faction maps when we use to discuss Leica vs Zeiss, Olympus vs Nikon which have been suspiciously absent lately

@Samuli nervous bokeh and slightly different characteristic make me prefer G45 to slightly recalculated ZM50P those all look great to me and I think we all know kids like their lenses with a bit of electricity in the background (jk sebboh)

@Redisburning, yeah. The 55FE lens has been looking excellent across the board. My original FE lens plan was get the 35FE for it's compact size with the hood on and because I've never actually used a proper 35mm prime and just in case I can't pickup another FE before Japan- I wanted to make sure I had something that could get a good feel of my experience while in the cities. But the 55FE images have all been hitting it home with me. While the 35FE I wasn't as excited about from a bit of image results until I landed on this thread. But now that I'm seeing the 35FE in better hand/visions here I'm in this tug of war of which FE prime I want first. haha. But I'm hoping I can afford the 35+55FE before my trip.

when in doubt, buy the ~50.

ok so maybe I legitimately own 10 and am biased. who am I to say. all I knowis the 55FE looks like a winner despite autofocus lmao.
