a7r and Elmarit 90 stopped down. In case anybody is wondering these annoying reflections are simply the result of me not being able to position the lens hood close enough to the window glass and having to shot at an angle. Still, I like how the sky turned out. 夕焼け Sunset by Alpha 2008, on Flickr
Not that many close ups here, apart from Ronny's of course......
I developed a bit of a butterfly obsession this summer. With the standard eyecup focussing next to impossible due to stray light, but a Minolta rubber eyecup fixes that. The only downside is that the cup covers the eye-sensor, so the back screen won't work. Lens used is the Pentax-A 100mm/2.8 (manual focus).
Nice "rain" shots Gregg!
Thanks Werner! We are finally getting some here in Ca...the rest of the country is buried in snow and getting wet, while we are lounging in 70 degree weather in Novermber. It's nice, but we are very close to water rationing!! So, I can deal with delivering in the rain...Btw, I'm loving those 16-35 shots. Looks like a really good lens, especially in your hands!
Greggf: Beautiful colors in those leaves.
Thanks Chris...I actually think it's the lack of rain that has made the colors SO vibrant. I don't remember our leaves so saturated like this..
I think the sky looks great in that last shot, and I like the whole scene, too!

I didn't know that Canon 16-35II could do that well on the A7R. Thanks for posting.
Thanks a lot! I used it all over Italy. Last year i used it on the 5dmkIII and this year in italy with the A7r. I love the lens more on the A7r as the sensor really maxes it out. Europe + 16-35 zoom lens is just fantastic. I have more in my flickr if you need to see other images taken with the same combo.
JaKo, it looks like that you have had a very nice trip of south of Yangtze River. I was on a very short trip to China last week and had an 24-hr layover in Beijing on my way back. I visited Forbidden City and Summer Palace for the day with beautiful early winter weather.
Gregg, beautiful image of the pick-up truck and good to see you using the Contax G90.
Love the first one Tayler
robbie36:Awesome shots
Really nice shot Dale and Gregg
JocoFoto; Very nice butterfly !
Great set Jack
Werner : Great shots as usual .. Great details
Nice Michiel

So the 85mm is the "best", the 28/2.8 your favourite, and the 18/4 still good but more care required?
Yes, that's about it. Not sure I can recommend the 18mm just yet. I need to shoot some more with it first and see if the issues with the curved focus field can be completely negated with care, or if two of the corners always will be unsharp. The 85mm is a little gem. Sharp wide open and very smooth and pleasant bokeh. A slight tendency to swirl the background which I like. The 28mm is also a fine lens. It too has a bit of field curvature (at least on A7), but not as severe as the 18mm, and easier to overcome.

I am thinking of treating myself to new optics
That is always nice. I'm done for now myself (need to sell some other stuff before even considering some new lenses). Looking forward to see what you choose and how you like it.
A walk around the Cruickshank Wildlife Sanctuary, this time with only the 500mm over
my shoulder..... The funny thing about this outing was that the scrub jay came right
over to me and was perched two feet away from my lens..... you know, the one
with the 15' minimum focusing distance!

That's a great scene and fine composition .. but I do think you've over sharpened / upped the clarity and /or vibrance which detracts from the greens/orange sunshade etc., hence why it hasn't attracted more 'Likes' yet. A little more PP work and I think that would be an awesome shot !
Thanks and I agree... ;-) I'm still getting used to the micro contrast of this Contax N lens. As to
the noise... it was a hit and run shot. I drove across the causeway just before the storm hit &
didn't plan for a tripod. I had about 3 minutes before the rain hit.

I have a decent optic in the ~85mm range (actually, it's 80mm), so maybe I will hold off another lens at that focal length for a while.
The 28mm looks like a safe bet. I wondered if I should be looking at 24mm lenses instead, but it's tough to choose

I think it's either between a 24, 28, 60, or 90. Lots of variation, I know! My gut is saying 28mm my be a good walk-around focal length. I appreciate your comments and photographs, thank you.
carlsote1: thx, IŽam glad you like baby shots with Mitakon 50/0.95.. Jako: Love the shots with lux.. after seeing the review of M 50/2 APO on Steve Huff page I wanted this lens so much /more than lux/ till the time I see the price tag which was a cold shower On the other hand if you buy this lens you wonŽt never sell it.. JocoFoto&Ronny: great macro shots! Greggf: your great shots with G 90 are torturing me cause I still donŽt have my ordered KiWi adapter.. keep on posting Werner_Utsch: ..after looking at your pictures with FE 16-35/4 I stop collecting money for WATE
Here is my shot with newly acquired great lens Leica Vario-elmar 35-70/4 in macro mode on A7r..
JocoFoto - great butterfly set!
banpreso - I really do like your Contax Zeiss 28mm F2 Hollywood shot and edits. Great lens, well done justice in your hands.
Gregg - your recent autumn posts are great. Various lenses in your collection are well suited for these kind of shots. Love it!
Lenses; if I had to pick full manual 50mm pair for Sony A7/x it would be Zeiss MP 2/50ZM (for infinity, x-frame sharpness) and CV Nokton 50 1.5 ASPH (WO close distance character) or perhaps Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 ZM (character)
Leica Summilux-M 50 ASPH has it both and I believe that it will perform even better on new Sony mirrorless FF cameras, but it comes at a price. Lux 50 is fairly heavy lens and new releases from Zeiss (Loxia) may be a worth a serious consideration.
Here are two that I took earlier today. It was cloudy and getting dark, and not much color to be had. So I clicked on the Lightroom "blue high contrast filter"...
Taken with the Sony A7 and an Olympus 50mm f1.8 at probably f2.8

Thanks Jack! BTW, I'm not selling my CV Nokton 50 1.5ASPH...I like it too much, but I am looking for another 50mm. Not sure if I want a ZM 50 1.5 or f2, or if I want a Contax 50 1.7 MMJ for stopped down work...Input? Anyone can chime in, really...
Here are two more from work yesterday
