A couple more Cormorant fishermen shots, one of the same old guy and one of another fisherman who joined him by the shoals. I was told they fish about 3-4 nights a week now but that when they were younger it was daily.
That evening I used mostly the D800E and Sigma 35/1.4 and Zeiss MP 100/2 but the A7 and 55/1.8 saw some action too. Both below with that combination.
Kevin, I gotta say these are insanely impressive, in particular the rendition of these fishermen's faces. I tip my hat to you. May I ask what kind of post-processing you applied to these pictures?
One thing I regret is not having a tripod with me in China. I figured in such tightly crowded places there may be no chance to even set it up, not to mention catch up with my tour group. However, there were few occasions that I wish I had a good support for my camera. Wide aperture + great center sharpness of Lux 50 and A7R high ISO are helpful but handheld shots of distant planar objects taken after dark are most likely to turn out far from sharp.
Speaking of crowded places, I was surprised how many times dozens of people would stop or go around to let me to take a shot. Also, I met few Chinese photographers who allowed me to use their tripods for landscape or night shots. In most cases my Arca Swiss bracket was no fit; however, many thanks for their offers!
Back in Vancouver; first local shot in few weeks
Lee Big Stopper ND filter + Kodak EPL Panther 400X emulation
PS
Thank you Kevin. I figured I should take a break from over-posting too many images from China. Still have some shots to share in upcoming days though.

That's very kind of you Chris ! I import all in RAW to LR5 and then use either one of my own, or an imported, pre-sets as a base before making some further adjustments to them. My usual adjustments will be mainly to Highlights, Shadow, Whites & Clarity before sharpening and reducing any noise.
Sometimes I also export to Perfect Photo 8 or one of the Topaz Labs modules for some specific work before re-importing back into LR for final adjustments and exporting via Mogrify 2 for sharpening and adding borders and copyright. I use Silver Efex Pro 2 for the B&Ws.
Thank you Chris! Where in Scandinavia are you going? Yes, let's hope for some snow soon. Nice work with the 16-35!
JaKo, amazing how many good photos you brought home from China.
tjack, I like #2 and I'm envious of your snow.
Frogfish, all three are wonderful. What a treat to see something so different and also well done.
