Lonelyppl and jfreak...you guys should really check out a Leica R Summicron 50. Dead sharp wide open, and to the corners by f4. Fantastic Leica colors, great pop, and buttery smooth focus. Did I mention it's a Leica??
Here is some fuel for the fire...

These are really impressive shots, again just feels like "yes that's Leica". I feel I am just being stupid with "its Leica" but can't get right mind set to think otherwise. I feel I am close to burning big hole in my wallet.
Any input on lux pre-asph. These are relatively in reach I feel. I want it faster than summicron.

I haven't ever shot an M 50 Lux, so no experience there except to say that the older versions of pre-ASPH were all made by Mandler, and hence have a look that is, well, "Mandler"!! I personally love the look...tons of character!
I have had, and it still is /was my favorite 50mm-Leica R Summilux 50 E55...It produced some of my all time fav shots...EVER! That lens might be obtainable, too, at a better price, I think...
And, here are a couple taken while on Kauai in September...both with the 70-200 f4 OSS i rented for the trip

@Chris_88, thanks for your input on lux 50. It may seem silly but I take pictures of kids mostly and after day is over, in side I shoot any lens wide open.I miss the focus on many but still its rewarding. From what I have read the lux is simply very good at 1.4. I never did before, but I have , for reason or not, feels something is special in M lens in the picture. Damn, my wife is correct very often when she says "is this from leica?".
I can hear you. I'm a big fan of that look, too. I actually prefer the slightly cooler color rendition and the Mandler bokeh of my Elmarit 90 to the slightly warmer Minolta colors or the color sucker punch of CV lenses. If you can afford the ASPH Lux, then I'd say go for it, otherwise you will always wonder what if. Is there any chance you could rent one before buying?
Of course, with Leica you will always have that endless discussion between those preferring the look of the old Mandler lenses versus the new ASPH designs by Peter Karbe, e.g. pre-ASPH vs ASPH Lux or 75 Lux vs 75 Cron. In the end, it all comes down to taste and personal preferences.
I'm still thinking about adding a 75mm prime to my collection. Problem is that I find the Lux 75 too heavy, the 75 Cron's focus throw too short, the MFD of the old 75 Summarit (the 2.5 version) too long and the color rendition of the CV 75 1.8 is not to my taste. The new Summarit might be an option, though.
Only a couple of weeks away from FM and specifically Sony A7x thread grew dozens of pages to follow up. Wow!
Just got back from two weeks trip to North East China and started downloading RAWs and sorting out images.
First, thanks to all FM posters who shared pictures from that part of China for all great inspiration and info on Shanghai area. Extra thanks you to Michael (zhangyue) and Ratymouse!
Sony A7R gear worked flawlessly during the trip. Four lenses were used to capture locations like Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing and finally Wuzhen; Leica Elmarit-R 28 v2, Zeiss Biogon ZM 2/35, Leica Summilux-M 50 ASPH and Leica Summicron-M 90 v3. Most images were taken hand-held with 35/50 combo. 28/90 pair saw only few blinks, which makes me to revise my 35-50 setup and most likely trim/edit current lenses.
Out of about 900 images I hope I will be able to edit and share few dozen or so.

@Vern Dewit, very nice at 1.2. Would love to hear your feeling about zuiko 50 1.2. Not many with this lens here..
I feel the zuiko is good but it does not wow me often. Unfortunately Leica 35 and 75 often do and hence the lust just keep getting stronger....and on weekend it gets worse.
So far I love it, but I've only owned it for a few weeks. I had the opportunity to buy a new copy (yes, a brand new one!) for much less than current list price so I had to try it. I also have the opportunity to buy a like new copy of the 55mm f/1.2 from the same seller but I've heard things that make me hesitate on that lens - although for the price it's tempting to buy it as an investment if nothing else.
I'll keep looking for good opportunities to test the 50mm, but as you know, not every situation calls for 1.2!

The Summilux is very nice, but the the Zuiko 50/1.2 is dead sharp at f/2 - even to the corners, and the Rokkor 58/1.2 is probably at its best at f/2. There are lots of options at f/2.

I feel at f2 the Zeiss MP is much sharp than zuiko so at f2 I am not sure I will call zuiko dead sharp. But honestly I am not after this sharpness as much as the LOOK. Leica has gotten into my head like a worm and feel indoors the pictures with leica are just what impress me. I have decided to purchase Lux 50 now. Just looking for a good lens and offer that would make me feel I got a good deal.

Another one, this old. M8 with summarit 75. Sorry this is not with a7 but just to add to the context here of why Leica lens has gotten into my head l1000607 by vazad, on Flickr
I am not if these are sharp like zeiss but they make me feel happy as pictures and so does my wife when we look at these. It feels very real. Both these don't have much PP if I remember well. Another thing I have recently felt is that I am struggling with skin tones in sony. I read someone else saying that too in last few pages, can't remember who.
Canon FD 35 f2 concave waiting at home. Here is a crop from FD 85 1.2. The melt into out of focus is just beautiful with this lens. My MP 100 zeiss which my most favorite lens on canon is extremely sharp but does not give this dreamy melt.
Funds got approved by wife for 50 lux. Just need to find one quick.
