So I am wondering if you would be willing to share what some of the best (affordable) wide to normal legacy lenses for the A7 are in your experience. I can't afford Leicas so those are out of the picture.
Congrats on your purchase Colin...somehow I know you got a great deal
If you are adapting your Canon lenses using a Metabones, consider the ZE series. I have the ZE 21 and it works well. The Contax lenses are good as well and typically smaller, lighter and in many cases cheaper.
Here's a couple of shots from my new body, the A7r...had to sell the A7 to get it, but being used it was a great deal, and turns out there were only 187 shots on the body.
Inspired by Helena's pictures with a C/Y Sonnar 85 and a Canon 500D close-up lens I bought a Minolta close-up lens No. 1 which is also an Achromat (i.e. 2 lens elements) that costs very little money (I paid 29 Euros) and comes already in 55mm filter size...
The picture is in colour and without any CA correction.
Thanks for the response and the great deal on the A7! Looking forward to getting it. And congrats on the A7R purchase. I thought long and hard about it but I do a lot of intimate landscape work with long lenses so the shutter shock issue was a bit of a deal breaker for me, particularly at the higher price. Once the price of the R comes down I might pick one up or finally cut the cord and sell my 5Dii to get whatever comes next. For now the detail level on the A7 will be enough for me I think.
The ZE lenses are too rich for my budget right now, and much heavier than I would like. But I know they're amazing and would love to pick up that 21 one of these days. I'll most likely look at the Contax ones for now. Seeing good things about them on here.
I finally took the plunge and just picked up an A7 on the Buy & Sell, and am planning to adapt my Canon EF lenses on it (17-40/70-200f4L/24-702.8i) but I would also like to get some manual legacy lenses to use. I currently have a couple OM Zuiko lenses for my OM-1 film camera (50 1.8 and 28 3.5 non MRC) but I realize they're not going to work very well for this sensor.

A simple and affordable way to start is the Zeiss C/Y glass. I own the 28 2.8, 50 1.7 and the 85 2.8. For something a bit wider the Oly 21 f/3.5 is decent on the A7. This makes a nice lightweight set and they are much less expensive (and much smaller/lighter) than their ZE counterparts....
C/Y 85 2.8 wide open on the A7.....(amazing and small lens, often overlooked because its "only" f/2.8).....
Oly 21 3.5....
C/Y 28 2.8....(one of the best wide angle lenses I've ever used)....
C/Y 50 1.7 (this lens is decent right from f/1.7, but I usually shoot it at around f/2 for a little extra sharpness)...
f/2.8....
f/2....
Oh, and if you like 24mm, the FD 24 2.8 is inexpensive and quite good......

I bought back into an a7 kit too actually just yesterday. It should arrive midweek next week. I bought my fav lens from when I had it before cv 15mm. Also picked up another fd adapter since I still have the lenses for my ae1
A7r with 55 FE 16 x 9 heavily cropped . The lens is so sharp I think I could look in the car windows on the bridge. The little cable fence made me think it was practice for the real bridge.

AGeoJO: Thanks! You won't regret taking the 24/70 on a trip, its made for that. Very convenient, for me thats part of a goos lens.
Love your shots with the FE 24-70, definitely makes you wonder why the lens had so many bad reviews
Earlier this year I travelled with primes only (24, 50, 85) and hated it. For everyday shooting it's not a problem, but when you are out sightseeing and not knowing what to expect, changing lenses is very inconvenient and annoying too (especially when you're not alone)
Thinking back I never had problems packing gear for a trip in my DSLR days, I would pack my standard zoom, maybe ultra wide or tele if I was expecting to use it. The only thing that I didn't like was the weight and size of my camerabag. And that's why I bought the A7 last year. Would love to have the convenience of the FE 24-70, but cannot justify the price and putting a bulky zoomlens on the A7...
I just bought the Kit lens for travel. It's suffient. I've supplimented it with a Minolta 40/2 as a walk around lens in the evening (perhaps a wider aperture would be better).
This looks as if it was taken with Zeiss wa prime. Now I see I was probably wrong rejecting the Vario Tessar, because of outer softness/pronounced barrel distortion at 24-28mm settings.Great job, superb lighting!
