Just back from Bosque del Apache south of Socorro New Mexico. I look forward to the annual trip, this year was no exception.
For those of you headed that direction, the birds are making their way to the refuge, there were about 5000 snow geese and a couple thousand sandhill cranes. The water situation is "meh" at best. With the government shutdown, they are about 6 weeks behind on projects around the refuge. The plan on releasing more water to different areas. The pond when you are headed to the refuge from San Antonio is full but had no birds on it while I was there. The flight deck has water but it's low. There are a couple of other areas with limited water as well.
I think it's been warm up north as the volume of wildlife was pretty low, it was warm while I was there as well.
Wednesday the storms were starting to roll in, I was able to capture some evening shots. Thursday was rain... all day. Friday things cleared up and I was able to shoot all day. Thursday morning had heavy fog which made for some fun shots, Friday as well.
Here are a few I've worked on.
A fun trip all in all...I'll post some more shots from the trip soon.
Enjoy the day all.

I believe it was you with the boy falling from buffalo into river photo a few years ago .
How did you get those shots ? did you camped there for a while until the moment came ? did you ask for their permission to take photos ?

Terrific composition, Joshua, my eyes are getting a wonderful sense of depth!
Thank you very much, Ross! Your sand dune images, especially the one that included the rainbow, are superb!

Thank you very much! The guide that I hired knows the location. I ended up spending almost 2 hours at the river, watching and photographing that guy. It was completely dark when we staggered back to our car that was parked too far from the location.

Bird is blue sky is not something most bird photographers are fond of but that's the only thing I got today. The eagle came pretty close, almost filled the frame.

What I am going to say is not about this story-telling shot Joshua took.
I know a lot of popular photography locations in Asia offer staged scenes where locals in their costumes doing stuff like fishing, smoking pipes, playing pokers, selling veggie.... In other word, paid models. Nothing wrong taking pictures of models.
I remember a few years ago a photographer won some kind of top prize for a photo he took in Indonesia, showing some seniors in traditional costumes playing some kind of game in a smoke-filled room. Later it was found out that the scene was staged, his award was revoked.
Came across this beautiful bobcat perched up in an aspen tree yesterday. He was completely calm the whole time — never moved from the branch. I kept my distance, grabbed a few frames, and left him right where he was. Such a great experience seeing this beautiful animal who is generally stealthy and unseen.

Scott, what an amazing experience! I am a huge cat lover of all kinds and have seen two bobcats in my life, both at a distance trotting quickly away (Florida and Utah), but I’ve never seen anything like this so close. What a beautiful feline!
