Beautiful refection, Graham. I have never been to the Canadian Rockies, it's on my bucket list.

Thanks, Douglas! I’m lucky and close enough to have visited twice. The sights are truly as spectacular as you have read and seen in pictures. The trails and vistas feel almost limitless. One could spend weeks there without retracing paths. The crowds at popular sites can be hard to avoid, but there are plenty of less trafficked areas and trails that we found.

Tell me about it! I always carry my Leatherman when I go to the desert because it comes in handy to pull out all the spines I inevitably get!
That is smart. The last time I got nailed was a couple years ago in Anza-Borrego desert and I had no tweezers or tools, it was ugly. Probably 30 needles were stuck in me.

Both you and Peire put the 100-400 GM to good use. What's you initial impression of the 100-400GM vs the Tamron 50-400mm? Other than the obvious difference in range and weight. I haven't done a comparison test of the two yet, maybe next week.

Thanks, Douglas. I love what you’re doing with the 14mm.
My 50-400 is very sharp, and so is the 100-400GM I just got. I would have to test them carefully side by side on same scene but I expect any difference to be small and inconsequential. The GM has better image stabilization, I can handhold down to 1/20th at 400mm, and it has less vignetting. But the Tamron has a better damped zoom that does not extend when carried downward, I prefer black for less attention getting around people, and I am missing that 50-99mm range because now I have to switch to my 2nd body with 24-105 more often. But since the GM will take the 1.4x I hope to find an appropriate scene to try that on.
