I was recently on a business trip to China and made the decision to take only two lenses, due to limited time: the 24 and 135 GM lenses. They turned out to be an ideal pairing for the subjects that I had time to shoot (pandas and a "face off opera" images a few pages back were with the 135, and these of Shanghai are all with the 24). A lot of my night images were at ISO 8,000 or 12,800 on the a1...ranges that I have almost never used. Between the strong performance of the camera itself and the rather amazing Topaz suite, the noise was wiped out without loss of detail. Kind of nuts.
The road was empty, the sky was on fire, and the silence was perfect. There’s a certain kind of peace out here that you don’t forget. No people, no distractions — just pure freedom exploring above the trees at 9,000 feet above sea level.
