I visited a friend in Schiedam, Holland yesterday. One thing led to the other, I was told that there was a small kingfisher sanctuary nearby that was setup by volunteers. He showed my some images he took using his phone. To make a long story short, although I didn’t have the right gear with me on this trip, we went to that spot. And I got lucky, just waiting some 15 minutes, one of the birds showed up. Here is one of the images from that “outing”….

Thank you, K-H.! I wished I had a longer lens, like the 200-600mm lens you used to take that excellent image, with me… but I truly didn’t expect to do any birding activities on this trip. It our last night here in Holland before flying back home tomorrow morning.

Some shots at sunrise/sunset from the coastline near Sintra. I couldn't find shots I really like from Sintra itself. We went to the National Palace of Pena, Quinta da Regaleira, lunched in the old city center, that's about it. I am not really a big fan of palaces.
We stayed at a nice hotel on Praia Grande Beach for two nights, we are not beach type either, didn't even get our feet wet, just enjoyed the beautiful coastline, parts of which reminded me of Big Sur in California. It was VERY windy pretty much everyday we were in Portugal, very challenging to get long exposure shots. For both sunrises of these pictures I was the only crazy one out on the coastal photo spots. The wind was brutal!

I spent a few years in Rochester before moving out to Canandaigua. I know Buffalo well from all my commuting through it to my parents place in Ohio... and when I got married in Vermont my two sisters were stuck in their car in a snowstorm on I90 overnight...
I was pleasantly surprised that OpenCL is now potentially pretty easy to get going with an AMD gpu (on Linux), it really does make a difference for Darktable. Its "diffuse or sharpen" module takes several seconds to apply certain effects and it takes several seconds to zoom in and out when editing after application, whereas with the RX 7900 XT and OpenCL both things take half a second.
And then Eirlys from the other weekend with the other sunstar lens (Lox 50) and no sun in sight
