At Lock Ridge Park (the site of an old Iron Furnace works), Alburtis, PA.
I made it back home yesterday evening but still “operating” on a different time zone…
The dune landscape at Sossusvlei, Namibia is incredibly overwhelming, both in terms of beauty and of “conquering”. The colors are beautifully reddish orange and intense due to oxidation of the high level of iron and the sand it is soft, making it tough to climb up or just to get across a few short ones to visit a spot called Deadvlei. Although the distance is only 1.7km or about 1 mile from the parking lot but it felt quite a bit further than that. The height of some dunes here is in excess of 300m; however, even a 20-30m high was tough to climb up…
You may want to climb on the harder side of the ridge, which is in the case of Dune 45, the left side as is visible in the upper ridge. You feet do not sink to almost your knee on that side, only to your ankle .
