Looking at the Sicily coast? from the Ferry between Messina on Sicily and the Mainland of Italy. The Trenitalia train that we rode from Taormina to Messina was loaded onto the Ferry. The Ferry ride across the Strait of Messina and mainland Italy is 3.2 miles. From there after the train was off loaded, we rode the train to Napoli (Naples).

On the Ferry from Messina to the Italian mainland, Sicily, Italy.
This day's hike took Kevin Israel and I from Bowman Head campground over Brown's Pass to our next stop at Lake Francis. It's an 8.5 mile hike with 2500 feet of elevation rise. We got an early start as we were expecting storms and rain to be moving in later in the day. Our hope was to get to camp and set up our tent before any rain started.
As we reached the halfway point, we started our climb. The views along the way were spectacular. The weather started to change and while we wanted to make time, it was a great time to photograph. Bad weather always makes for the best photography. The sun was peaking through the incoming clouds illuminating parts of the mountains. I hope these images give a good sense of what we were seeing.
Once we reached the top of the pass, we stopped for lunch. However, lunch was cut short as the temperatures dropped quickly. I put on several layers but we needed to start hiking to get warm.

This one is from my 3rd studio session. By that time I finally figured all the settings best suited for studio on A1. That includes auto-focus! Because I had to use manual before that.
Again, this is different lighting set up and I continue this journey (still without make up and slylist):

Tripod mounted A1 and Voigtlander 110mm f2.5 Macro Apo-Lanthar, FE mount; silent shutter. 2 Macro Focusing rails were used to position the camera and lens on the tripod head and tripod. The lower focusing rail for the X-axis (left and right postioning) was the Leofoto MP-180S and the upper focusing rail for the Y-axis (front and back positioning) was the Swebo LS001.

In my garden bed in front of my home; Breinigsville, PA.
We arrived at our next campsite, Lake Frances and did so just in time. We knew some weather was moving in so we quickly set up camp. No sooner had we finished the rain started coming down. The campsite was up a ways from the the lake so we didn't really know what to expect. Seeing the lake for the first time, even in light rain, was an OMG moment. The lake is not too big but across the way are towering mountains that go straight up from the lakeshore. The water was this aqua green color and glowed under the overcast skies. A waterfall ran the length of the mountain and we could hear the rushing water throughout the campsite. Best of all, we were the only two people there!
The rain didn't last too long and we were anxious to leave the tent and explore more of this glorious spot. We just hung out on the lake and watched the clouds begin to clear. As they did, all of a sudden a huge mountain appeared in the background behind the Sentinels. It was Mount Cleveland, the tallest peak in the park. It was another OMG moment!
We finished the day with calm winds, clearing skies and a nice reflection of a mountain sunset in the lake. We knew we were continuing our hiking tomorrow but we didn't want to leave this magical place.

FE 55. West Tibet has many troglodyte settlements such as this one at Khyunglung Ngulkhar. Historians and archaeologists are trying to shed light on the many mysteries of these extremely old sites. They greatly predate Buddhist (7C) and even Eternal Bon populations. There are religious artefacts that would be stolen in an instant anywhere else, but that is true of all of Upper Tibet, where just in recent years roads are being built to connect the villagers to - well - the world, such as it is.
We started our backpacking at Lake Bowman. We went through Polebridge and stopped for Danish (a tradition) but being lunch time, we opted for the meatball/cheese sandwich which I highly recommend. We at our lunch at the shore of Lake Bowman. The slight haze and glassy waters made for a very serene and calming experience.
This day's hike would be an easy flat 7 miles to the Bowman Head Campground, basically a hike the entire length of Lake Bowman. The campsite was empty when we arrived but eventually we had one other couple at the campsite. Otherwise, we didn't see a person on the trail. The campsite included a stream running right next to us so it was a great opportunity for some cascading rapids using my modified Peak Design tripod where the leg sections were removed creating an 18" tripod that could be extended to about 2' tall and much lighter for back packing....Show more →

You convinced me to take the Loxia 35 with me on an outing to the Hoh River in Olympic Nat'l Park tomorrow. I am taking the Batis 18 and was going to take the CV 40E, but I think the Loxia images will go better with the Batis, and a little wider angle for the trails.
Often think about replacing the 21 and 35 Loxias but have yet to convince myself that this would be a good plan!

Alan's comment below inspired me to apologize that photostory looks a bit short and definitely not crazy enough.
We got to Tanger - Maroccan port on the African shore of Gibraltar straits - totally accidentally. We were spending windsurfing holidays in Tarifa, Spain and during one lasy breakfast made an assidental decision to take a speed ferry to Tanger. Thus in half an hour we were transported from beatifull Spain resort village to crazy-crazy-crazy port of Tanger. During our few hours in Tanger we managed to:
Hire and fire 4 local "guides" without paying them a penny;
4444 times said NO to very generous offers to buy from one bidi to 10 kilos of hashish for "the best price, Sir, only for you, because we have not seen such noble person in our life"))));
Purchased and sent to my friends in Cyprus beatifull (trully beatifull) Maroccan carpet for EUR80 (while the inititial asking price was EUR1'600)))), and after this bargaining I understand what gladiators were feeling after the win;
Have rejected super offer to change my girlfriend for five white camels))));
