The Reddish Egret is one of the most rare and habitat restricted herons. These beauties were almost hunted to extinction in the early 1900's for their gorgeous plumage. They are now classified as near threatened.

They are amazing and comical to watch.

I just returned from a 5-day hiking trip in Utah. One of my favorite places was Dead Horse State Park with this fantastic overlook of the canyon and Colorado River below. This is a five image pano (handheld). Because this was a group tour, I didn't get to shoot sunrise or sunset so I had to deal with the light I had.

Hi Bob,

Great Image. Last time I was there was in 1995 and took an image with my Linhof Technikardan 45S 4" X 5" and Rodenstock Grandagon N MC 90mm f6.8 on Velvia 50. 3 of us had climbed below the top to take our images a little before sunrise. But, I was a little off in my focus on the ground glass that early in the morning. The winner of an image was taken at about 8:30 AM and could be printed huge up to 40" X 50" (which I believe was displayed at PhotoPlus in NYC in the 40" X 50" size). Sold an awful lot of those images in various sizes up to 32" X 40" with the later images printed to metal.

Thank you, Roberta! What a terrific hummer shot you got there! I know the hummers are back in our area but I haven't seen one myself yet. They are truly amazing little birds.

Photo taken at 1:54 PM.

Looking at Dante's (Dante Alighieri) "Death" Mask which was behind glass/plexi glass. I had to lower the shutter speed and increase depth of field due to rolling effect caused by the lighting source.
Cropped, Hand Held, relying on Camera IBIS, A1 and Voigtlander 50mm f2 Apo-Lanthar Asph FE mount; silent shutter.
ISO 1600, f5.6, 1/200 second.
Exposure Corrected -0.35 Stops.

Thank you Steve! I read that you guys got a big snow storm few days ago, crazy!

I see hooded mergansers in local ponds and lakes from late Oct to Feb, had never seen them outside of these months. I was pleasantly surprised that folks were posting hooded merganser ducklings from Huntley Meadow Park in Alexandria, VA recently. I headed over yesterday morning to check them out, only saw the ones I posted, they are probably 2 weeks old, there is another family with much younger babies but I didn't see them. This family I saw had 15 babies at the start but down to 8 as of yesterday.

Here are a few more shots of the family, if you look carefully, the one in the first picture was eating a tadpole.
