Wilhelm...
You finally got your Contax 35-70!! Congrats...
Look forward to more pics from you! I'm telling you, it's made for the A7's! Taking mine to Hawaii best week for 2 weeks. I'm planning on it being my main lens while I'm there.

Wilhelm, I absolutely hate you! For at least 5 seconds. I owned a C/Y 35-70 and it rapidly became the lens I loved to hate. Not the IQ, but using it was such a pain. I had totally gotten over it, and now you come up with such a cracking shot. Go away!
Thanks for the link Derek! Interesting!
Philber...the 35-70 is only a pain with a CPL...I'll let you know how frustrated I get while using it in Hawaii, with CPL!!
I recently had a Leica Vario Elmar 35-70/4 Macro, which is supposed to be the holy grail of 35-70's, and while it was pretty incredible, I actually preferred the Contax more! It's probably my best and close to my sharpest lens overall!!

Gregg, what killed me was: in order to focus, because it is not the fastest lens, I opened it wide, then stopped it down. Then I would change focal length to adjust composition, and the d*****d zoom isn't parfocal, not even close, so I ahd to open it wide again, refocus, stop it down. It just bore me down. But, as I said, the IQ is awesome for a zoom, so no quarrels here. Now that was with a 5DII. Maybe with a mirrorless and peaking it would be better... Anyway, have fun, Hawai is such a gorgeous place!
Some small steps out of the comfort zone. No location which I had shot before (okay the sheep excluded, they were on the way) and only one lens at f/16. I discovered a beautiful spot 100m away from my daily commute to uni.

What's still holding me back is the 12MP and the price (paying a premium price for video features which I never use). I shot with the Canon 5D for years and 12MP wasn't a problem, but I got used to more now.
That 12MP is an issue for me too. I have a D800E (36MP) and D3s (12MP) and find the A7 is just perfect at 24MP. If I had to choose to go either of the other ways it is definitely 36MP.
No denying how well the camera does in skilled hands though !

Love that you're changing it up. Your images still have a distinct signature (other than the border) and I knew that they were yours without looking at the username. First one is my favorite, love your sheep photos for some reason.
Navydoc -- In your pictre of the bench infront of the brick building reflecting, I was wondering what that effect is called. I know it's not 3D or gloss, but I've seen it in some other images as well. Would you be willing to share your PP secret?
This one
If anyone else knows what that "look" is called please feel free to share. Trying to find other pictures with the same effect.

Love the first one. Is that 30 seconds right? 8 or 10 stop ND filter? On your walks do you normally carry a tripod? I've used one, but rarely.
More often than not I carry a tripod, but it is a very small one, it is less than a foot long and weigts under 2 pounds. I can simply attach it to my small camera bag.
No ND filter was involved, i took the image around sunset in a forest so there wasn't much light.

Thank you for the response. Looks like I need to start bringing my tripod with me. I'm getting better at "finding the light" and a little better in PP, but I'm still pretty terrible.
And that guy which asked about look of that bench pic, it looks bit HDR-ish so I would say its most likely carefully increased tonal contrast. Thats that thing responsible for 3D effect also, if you know how.. To be precise, its part of it, not all.
Looking for a few replies concerning my upcoming Hawaii trip...My main lens is going to be my Contax 35-70 with my Contax 28 2.8 for wide, with a rented 70-200 f4 OSS from Roger, then my CV's 35 1.7 Ultron and 50 1.5 ASPH. Is that too much??
My main problem though, is the fact that the Contax 35-70 has the damn reflection issue on the sensor! I put gaffers tape on the inside of the adapter, but it still reflects a little...I still have my Minolta MD 35-70, also, which is a fantastic lens(up for sale, btw!), and it doesn't reflect??
Which should I bring??
Help...
Gregg
Gregg -- Sounds like a great trip but that is a lot of glass to lug around. If it were me, I would go with the zoom or the primes, not both.
Speaking of primes. This is the Contax 35mm f/2.8 C/Y on an A7s with mid-day harsh light which I have been trying to avoid like Phillip. I almost feel like I am breaking a rule shooting in bright full sunlight. This is a lens I have seldom used before selling my RX1. It has some of that Contax Zeiss pop like the 35-70 that is getting a vacation in Hawaii. I can see I am going to confuse myself. I first stated that this was the A7r and then I realized it was the A7s -- sorry about that.
