A couple shots from this morning, all taken within 10 minutes. It was my first time to see rainbow and snow at the same time, it wasn't even raining. We have had several beautiful sunrises this week.
For few years I had been living in the Far East. Unfortunately I was too young to aquire beatifull culture of Japan deep enough...
Today my reading was GAI-JIN by James Clavell (I have mentioned his Asian Saga in previous post) - the rare mix of fiction, true culture and history of Japan during extremely interesting period of 1860-1900 years (during this period rural and samurai Japan leapfrogged into industrial nation open for foreigners). Also very nice book which I recommend without hesitations.

P.S. Really fascinating fact about Clavell is that he was introduced to Japanese "culture" during 1942-1945, the years he had spent in Japanese concentration camp Changi Prison in Singapore as prisoner of war. It is amazing how he managed to convert his misery and survival under Japanese guards into interest and love to true Japanese culture.
Joshua, those are fantastic. Soooooo much personality in that little guy, he almost looks like a Pixar character. Great shots!

Annual migration of the Monarch Butterflies, as seen in Pacific Grove, California. The abundant rains and cooler than normal temperatures have driven many of these butterflies further South, but about 9,500 of them were there today in a small eucalyptus grove.
All shots were with the 100-400 + 1.4x extender on an a7Riii. I usually do not crop my images, but most of these had about a 1/3 crop.

Thank you very much, Jim! I am pleased you like the images of the toucan barbet and yes, you are correct about their look. There is another barbet, a read-headed barbet that looks like “Red”, one of the Angry Bird characters.
Thank you for sharing those wonderful monarch butterfly images, Jim! I enjoyed photographing them, too. There are a few places along the Central California Coast where they overwinter. And, yes, Pacific Grove is one of them.

Strange to have these guys and flowers in the garden in January, can't say I remember having so many insects this time of year not to mention sunflowers blooming.
