This room - the inner sanctum protector chapel or 'gonkhang' - is normally kept locked to keep the public out. #1 some deities are too confronting to view and so are veiled; #2 this protector deity holds the arm and skull of a Mongol demon, dating from the early centuries of the monastery's existence (founded early 15th century); #3 is the face any would-be invader sees when they approach the gompa.

The rune stone (not a copy) is called Kulisteinen. It dates from around year 1000 and is the oldest known marking of both Christianity and the name "Nóregi" (now Norge (Norway)).
