I was recently given the opportunity to buy a new Tamron 28-200 lens at a substantial discount. I have never been a fan of all in one lenses due to the lower IQ of all the ones I had previously owned. But, I keep reading great things about this lens, and I often wish to go out with a small simple setup. If figured I could get pretty much all my money beck if this turned out to be the case with this lens. So I bought it.
Yesterday, was my first opportunity to take it out to give it a try. It was bright and sunny morning so I rented a Lyft Scooter, and went for an early morning ride along the downtown waterfront here in San Diego.
It was a very convenient lens to shoot. Nothing special, but no real negatives either. I would prefer if it had Image Stabilization, and maybe a focus lock button like its competitor in my kit the Sony 24-105 f/4 G. But in practice on this outing they were non issues. I shot it one step up from a point and shoot. Aperture Priority, Auto ISO - Fast (because it was long at times and IBIS only), Flexible Spot- Large, and Matrix metering. Easy, dumb, shooting like I anticipate using it.
Anyway, I tried a variety of shots and the results seem nice. Certainly a step up from the other all-in-one lenses I have tried in the past. So far, I am liking the lens.
It took a few weeks before I had some time to gather more pictures with new to me Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 35/2 in FE mount and make my own opinion about it. I started testing it right after the Sony FE 50 / 1.2 GM. So I will be boring in the summary. This is another excellent prime lens in the Sony FE mount .Very similar to its older brother - Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 50/2 FE in terms of color reproduction, sharpness, oof blurr, quality of workmanship, physical parameters and pleasure of use.Siutable for architecture,landscapes,street and close ups.Great little lens.
