An image from my backyard this morning... The honeysuckle "blessed" the hummer with something yellow on its head .
From taking a lot of hummer pics this summer, I was quite surprised to see the wings so sharp at just 1/1000 s shutter speed. Then I noticed the bird is actually perching, so it may have slowed its wing speed down just to keep balance. Nice catch!!

Thank you very much and good observation, Photonoclast! It was perching at an angle; so it still relied on the wing beats to keep balanced. But you are right it may have slowed down the wing beats somewhat, hence sharper rendition even at 1/1000sec. I noticed, especially in Costa Rica that hummers try to perch to conserve energy while feeding. Sometimes, they perch on the side of the flower stalk and wrap their body around to get to the flower .
A few from tonight -- the weather cooperated and held off raining until after dusk.
Playing with my new (to me) CV 15/4.5 III E, from the B&S board. These first shots look pretty sharp even into the border areas, only stopped down to f5.6, -2/3 stop from wide open.
Couple more from a misty morning at Stonehouse Pool in Plymouth back at the end of November. The first turned out to be my last shot with the CV before it became one of the sacrificial lambs needed to get hold of the Sigma 14-24. I fear I'm going to regret it but when you've got a plan...
