An image from my backyard this morning... The honeysuckle "blessed" the hummer with something yellow on its head .
From taking a lot of hummer pics this summer, I was quite surprised to see the wings so sharp at just 1/1000 s shutter speed. Then I noticed the bird is actually perching, so it may have slowed its wing speed down just to keep balance. Nice catch!!
Thank you very much and good observation, Photonoclast! It was perching at an angle; so it still relied on the wing beats to keep balanced. But you are right it may have slowed down the wing beats somewhat, hence sharper rendition even at 1/1000sec. I noticed, especially in Costa Rica that hummers try to perch to conserve energy.
