Nice birds shots, Joshua, Bob, Ronny and Willy.
Many thanks, Joshua. After a lot of hand wringing, I decided to sell off the 135 GM, because unlike you I hardly take portraits and even though I tried to shot (close to) wide open more often, it's just not my style. Hence, I'm in the process of moving on to the Tammy 70-180.
Thanks, Ronny. That little guy sure was hanging in there, while you took that picture .
As expected, the 12-24 GM sings in your capable hands, Bob.

Thank you very much, Chris! I understand your position towards that GM lens. I also bought the Tamron 28-200mm although I haven’t had the chance to really use it short of some tests. For what it offers and at the price, it is actually a great lens. That’s a wonderful flower image taken with that lens.

From 2 weeks ago... And yes, the hooded merganser could not only subdue it but it was able to swallow that crayfish whole after it had broken off the limbs and especially the pinchers of the crayfish. The stomach of mergansers generates enzymes that could dissolve the shell. Simply amazing and that’s nature for us...

From my walk along the La Jolla Coast this evening. One of the benefits of living here is the weather. Even December is comfortable and beautiful.

Shot with my Voigtlander 40 f/1.2 .

Enjoy.

The great thing about most of your Aberdeen house photos Jim is that they make me feel that our house isn’t quite such a tip after all!
My excuse is that this place is a tad older and I am repairing it thoughtfully .........., and therefore slowly.

I am not sure if my resident "Alpha" Hummingbird has been usurped or if he is changing color with the seasons. Here are two shots from this morning. He is getting way more colorful if it is still the same old "Bob" the Hummingbird.

He has begun sitting in this rose bush to guard the feeder from the other two birds.

We had good, soft light this morning,, but that kept the ISO up a bit.

Enjoy.

Hi Peter -- No excuse needed!

We bought our house out of foreclosure -- it was our old family home from 1930, but sold after my mom passed away in 2004. After the new owners gave up, no one really wanted it because of cosmetics (mostly), but also the need for repair from elements. So we got it for an amazing price. Still a lot of work to be done, such as new shingles, painting exterior, modern windows (maybe!), and some minor plumbing. We might at some point remodel the single bathroom, but currently I'm in the middle of doing French drains, and just had an excavator do some dirt rearranging. But it's not too bad, and certainly not in the condition of the poorer parts of town that have seen decades of neglect and deferred repairs.

You see how people live in the town, day to day, and what is important many times is not the exterior or appearance, in favor of having a relaxing place to live when not working, or a place to store their outdoor interests such as boats or RVs.

Aberdeen is overall a place that is all about getting by and getting along, and not a lot of snobbery even in the most affluent neighborhoods.

Obviously I'm biased, having grown up here.
