With the new Sigma 85 1.4 coming out I decided to give the Samyang 85 1.4 a spin the other night to see if I really needed to "upgrade". Maybe static subjects are too easy of a test, but since that's what I use it for I think I'll try to hold off on switching...
First outing with new-to-me Nikkor 35/2.8 PC lens, purchased used here on B&S. It has some optical weaknesses (as to be expected), but also some excellent color and character (due to strong field curvature). But sometimes it works!
Full Frame, looking at a Great Blue Heron inverting its wings to sun itself.
Tripod mounted 100-400mm GM set to 342mm and A7rIII; silent shutter.
ISO 100, f5.6, 1/250 second.
Exposure corrected +0.78 Stops.

Bob: Impressive sharpness with the 600 and 2x TC. Pretty amazing to see that kind of perfromance with a 2x TC. Btw, I relally liked your milkyway shots with the Sammy 14 XP a few pages back. Excellent work. Kinda made me regret selling that lens.

200-600 at 500mm and f6.3. I think this is a pale thrush.
^^ @Chris_88 Thank you very much, Chris! I see that you have been using/enjoying the 200-600mm lens and you did well capturing that bird. I started using that lens more often now and I have been very pleased with the performance of that lens, both optically as well as AF-wise.
I tried to use the quote function but somehow I couldn’t get that to work. It seems that it is temporarily not available and I hope that Fred will fix it soon.
Many thanks, Joshua. Initially I was a bit skeptical about this zoom, but the image quality and AF performance of the 200-600 are great and in decent lightning condition I have nothing to complain about other than I don't have enough time to take pictures these days.
Btw, sure looks like the quote function is disabled; it didn't work for me as well.
