The rIV gives you so much to work with you can make something out of even an old dog of a lens (Sony-Zeiss 24-70/4) look good. Also Silver Efex 2 is great for BW.

I saw this female peregrine falcon further up when it was flying towards my general direction. I focused and tracked her using the Zone AF but it disappeared on beyond the cliff. All the sudden I saw that she came back up really close to the cliff and I just fired the shutter briefly. These are 3 images I got from that sequence. Although I am impressed that the camera could focus well in the first 3 images but the subsequent images showed the vegetation on that slope was in focus since it was contrasty and closest to me, rendering the falcon completely out of focus after the last image here. I moved the camera to the right and that placed the border of the Zone AF on the vegetation... oh, well. No big deal anyway. The falcon had landed and it is in focus in the first 3 images .

Fantastic photos here, and so many more to see on flickr !
I was amazed to find out you even took the 35mm 1.2 with you when being on this photo trip in the mountains!
SO you were carrying quite some equipment I guess, but it was so much worth it looking at the results !
Also nice astro/milkyway shots with these mountains in there !
Keep the pictures coming !

Thanks!

A lot of equipment indeed. I wanted to do a little test to see how far I can push the Peak Designs everyday pack 30L, and I found the limit.

I packed the A7RIII w/ battery grip, 24-70 GM, 14-24 DG DN, 135 GM, and the 35 DG DN; plus the NiSi S5 system, and all the usual accessories like tripod, timers/intervalometers, cleaning supplies, power pack etc. I would have brought my Loxia 85 as well but it is at Zeiss for a repair.

It was noticeably above the limit for what that pack is designed to carry, particularly in that type of terrain.I was thoroughly exhausted, not just from the weight, but the pack does not stabilize that much gear so it was frequently making it more difficult than necessary to keep my balance on the climbs/descents.

At least now I know the bags limit, so I'll be using a more serious bag for trips like that in the future.

Shot this long exposure image with my recently repaired Batis 18 which had a faulty AF motor.

I was curious if the A7R4 could focus on barn swallows any better than the R3 could, and the answer is a resounding YES! Never managed to capture a usable swallow pic on the R3, and got 3 in one outing today. My technique needs improvement for tracking these in flight, but I think all of these are a good step beyond the R3's capabilities. These are with the 100-400 at 400 wide open.

It's been so long since I've taken camera gear and shot for anything other than local tests, I feel like I'm at risk of having to remember how!

With British Columbia entering Phase 3 of easing restrictions, but still requiring social distancing, masks in many situations, and so on, the option for local travel (within reason) if done responsibly is there. My wife and I were in Lake Louise for a couple of nights, which was a welcome respite in a beautiful location.

The shot below was A7RIII, FE 12-24 & tripod. It was the only morning that wasn't heavily overcast. I had shot focus brackets, but the movement of the clouds restricted me to one frame only. This is pretty much your typical shot of Lake Louise, nothing particularly creative, I'm afraid.
