Sigma 50 Art was at first quite disappointment, boke was very harsh on most photos. After few times shooting with it I found out that nature photos can be rendered pleasantly with decent boke as long as I tame down harshness with polarizer. Example with polarizer and without polarizer, and 2nd pair; with polarizer and without polarizer.
However I'm not in deeply love with this lens, it's just one-trick pony; boke does not improve or change any way when closing down aperture, blur circles just get smaller, boke character and issues stays the same. Also focus plane contrast compared to boke contrast does not increase when closing down. So more or less it makes no sense to ever close down the lens. But the one-trick it does, it does pretty well, as focus plane is strong enough for most of my shooting (people whom spend their nights and days pixel peeping may feel different...).
Well maybe two-trick pony, it's pretty OK for landscapes, but it's not landscape lens size or weight. Also personally for landscapes I prefer rendering style of any Planar 50 from Contax (C/Y, G, N-mounts) or Carl Zeiss (ZM 2/50, ZE 1.4/50, Sony Alpha Mount 1.4/50 or Loxia 2/50) closed down f/6.3-11 for landscapes.
