First outing with 100mm STF. I am liking it so far.

The bokeh of the first image is not what I expected coming from the STF lens.... Not sure what to make out of that image without any exif data. The noise is quite noticeable, too and that in both.

Thanks for the kind words, Joshua! But those aren't the most intense, which I've held back posting so far...:-) And yes, the 85 acquits itself nicely for such "portraiture" IMHO. Though I am useless with the AF for want of practice, and my keeper rate was not above 50% where I would have expected a lot more.

The noise probably came from pushing the a9 jpg files a little too far. When I get home I can try the raw files to see if the noise gets better. I think the STF signature bokeh is more noticeable when shooting fairly close to the subject using the close focus mode. At portrait distance, the bokeh seems really depend on how far the background is. In the statue picture, the bush is about 2 feet away.

Sony ILCE-7RM2 + Commlite CM-ENF-E1 Electronic Adapter + AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED @ ISO 320, FOCAL LENGTH 35.0 mm (35.0 mm in 35mm), APERTURE f/13, EXPOSURE TIME 0.01667s (1/60).

I have two versions of the adapter that seem to work for Nikkor AF-S lenses (they have built-in focussing motor), namely:

• Commlite CM-ENF-E1 Electronic Lens Mount Adapter (2016) from Nikon F Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera supporting AF, EXIF Transmitting, Aperture Control for SONY (New) with firmware version 04.
• Commlite CM-ENF-E1 Pro Nikon F Mount Lens to Sony E Mount Autofocus Electronic Lens Adapter (2017 Upgraded Version) with firmware version 05.

According to http://www.commlite.com/en/down.php, quote:

The Newest Firmware: Ver. 06 _2017.09.28 (Windows Only)
Notice:
1. Upgrade CM-ENF-E1 PRO from Ver.05 to Ver.06
2. Upgrade CM-ENF-E1 from Ver.04 to Ver.06 directly

Upgrading Details:
V06 Firmware Upgrading Content:
1. Compatible with SONY A9;
2.Compatible with following new lens:
AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR
AF-S 70-200mm f2.8E FL ED VR
AF-S 105mm f/1.4E
85MM f/1.4 ART
135mm f/1.8 ART

One difference I noticed using the adapters on A9 and A7rII, the A7rII fails earlier when light levels get lower.
Also the A9 supports Eye-AF, the A7rII doesn't.
When using the adapters they need a few moments before they start focusing, quite well in good light.
I don't consider them suitable for BIFs.

K-H.

Shooting a Rap music group in Helsinki 6.10.

It was quite a pain to shoot wide open with manual lenses, but I guess my manual focus skills are getting better. None of the images are tack sharp, but I was more keen to get the general mood in my photos rather than get the perfect pictures.

I didn't get any comment from the group itself when I delivered the pictures at 6am. Quick and dirty shopping or perhaps just not fond of my style.

Just took a look to your gallery and I like your work... some grab have a very good composition and atmosphere
Hope they will give you an answer and a comment in the next days. If this doesn't happen you can consider they don't know simple and basic behavioral rules

Hey Manuel. Thanks a lot for the kind words.

I'm kind of dumbfounded by not getting any response. Insult to injury, I shot the gig for free as a 'friend'. Gotta have to agree on the last bit.

Anyway, I had fun honing my manual focus skills and got a confirmation that a 24mm is also needed for gigs like this... I had a FD 28/2.8 with me, but didn't use it at all and it doesn't really have that wide look; too well corrected

Any recommendations from anyone on the thread for a good manual 24mm lens? Aperture of around f/2.0 is sufficient and price should be manageable.
